I don't seem to have many changes of heart when it comes to movies.

I thought the 40 year old virgin would suck (it had Steve Carell in it, how could it NOT suck like a hoover?) and I was right. It's pretty much the same reason I try not to see movies with the unholy triad of Wilson/Stiller/Ferrell in them.

I prefer my comedies to actually be funny. I've not seen a good comedy in years.

I've seen a lot of movies, and am generally pretty open-minded, so I'm rarely surprised to enjoy something. Probably when I was a teenager would be the last time. Disney's Beauty and the Beast, maybe?

Surfs up - Dreamworks CGI Movie starring Shia Lebouf about surfing penguins. In direct competition against Happy Feet

sounds bad right?

I loved it. Not Pixar-quality but it was a nice light hearted film

Chicken Joe was awesome. Id say better than Happy Feet.

Real Steel was also a nice surprise. Hugh jackman with rock-em sock em robots. sounds like a lame cash-in. And really the story is generic but the way it was delivered was awesome.

I always describe it as "Rocky/Over the Top with Robots"

21 Jump Street. I thought it would probably be the worst movie of the summer, but the it had like 96% on rotten tomatoes. I went to go see it with zero expectations, and lo, it was good! Can't explain that.

Zombieland It looked like just another zombie movie. I know they have plenty of fans, but, personally, I'm rather sick of the genre. Plus, this had the stupid Michael Cera wannabe in it. But, it turned out to be really, really good.

10 Things I Hate About You It looked to be just a dumb teen romance movie filled with overdone and obvious cliches. I watched it under objection. But, it turns out that it's smart, funny, great acting, and a really good story!

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World I'm not a comic reader, so I hadn't heard of this before the movie. It has a ridiculous title and the previews didn't draw me in at all. Yet, the movie was surprisingly good.

Kick-Ass Yeah, basically the same explanation as Scott Pilgrim. Perhaps I should track down more movies based on comic books with really dumb names

The Wrestler I dislike professional wrestling. So, when I first heard about this movie, I immediately dismissed it. But, Mickey Rourke's performance got rave reviews and critics loved the movie. So, I thought I'd give it a chance. It is one of the best movies I've seen in years.

Agreed here totally. I do like "The Office" though, but I've never seen Steve Carell in a decent movie, nor any of those other guys you mentioned.

No Country For Old Men would be my pick. I avoided watching it for 3 years thinking I wouldn't enjoy it. I loved it.

Carell was in Bruce Almighty, Anchorman, Little Miss Sunshine, and Date Night.

Stiller was in Tropic Thunder, The Royal Tenenbaums, There's Something About Mary, Happy Gilmore, and Reality Bites.

Owen Wilson was in Marley & Me, Wedding Crashers, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Armageddon.

Ferrell was in Talladega Nights, Anchorman, Elf, Old School, and Austin Powers.

Up.

Figured it would be a silly Disney story. I enjoyed it, completely. The story at the beginning, with no dialog, was rather touching. I also laughed everytime a dog would stop its dialog to say "Squirl!" and stare into the distance.

Have seen 3 of those movies - and they are the reasons I now avoid movies with them in it (Armageddon was watched DESPITE the presence of Wilson). In addition to anything with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey.
I saw Bruce Almighty and it was pretty meh - even Morgan Freeman couldn't save it in my eyes (and I was about sick and tired of Jim Carrey's non-stop gurning at that stage.).
Happy Gilmore? Adam Sandler? I said I preferred my comedies to be funny. Adam Sandler isn't. He's on the list also.
I have the soundtrack to RB. I have never seen the movie. Don't particularly want to.
If my list means I miss a few gems amongst the dross, then it's no sweat off my nutsack from my pov.

Avatar - I thought I would hate it, but really enjoyed it. The effect has lessened over the year or so since, but it really won me over when I first saw it.

A-Team - thought it was going to be terrible, taped in on the Sky box, almost deleted it as I was that convinced it was going to be awful. Then thought, aw what the hell. One of my fave movies on Sky last year. Watched it about seven times since, and would like to see a sequel.

The Hangover - didn't think it would be my kind of film, but really liked it. Aura liked it as well, and she's not normally a fan of that kind of film. Waiting for the second one to turn up on Sky atm.

Sherlock Holmes - Much like A-Team, really thought it would be pants, almost deleted it, watched it. Absolutely love it, Can Mr Downey Jr do no wrong at the moment. Even more impressive was a role that I actually like Jude Law in. Amazing film, one of my top ten atm, would have liked to go see the second at the cinema, but sadly not to be.
So waiting for it to turn up on Sky. My desperate hope would be a third film set on the Baskervilles storyline, just as I'd love to see a current movie take on the Hound.

Thats all I have atm.

Easy picks for me:

Friday Night Lights: I cannot stress enough How great this American football movie is. If you think you know Anything about movies you have to watch it.

Coach Carter: Didnt love it but i thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hustle and Flow: Fab film.

Cocktail: Just great, the young Goofy toothed Cruise is one of the most effortlessly charming actors ever.

@Grakmar the reason '10 things i Hate about you' has such a good story is beacuse it was based on shakespeare. A bit like how 'Clueless' is based on Jane Austen.

Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are two of those actors that most people hate, but they're good at what they do: being really loud and obnoxious. I mean, I actually like seeing their movies because I already have low expectations, and am just planning to go laugh at them acting like jackasses.

On-topic, I just want to say that a lot of animated movies over the years have kind of surprised me. Princess and the Frog I thought was just going to be another Disney movie, but it wound up being really good. Up was another that I thought would be kinda meh, but it had me in tears at times, especially during the opening. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, same thing - thought it looked pretty eh, but I went to see it with a younger cousin and wound up laughing my butt off the whole way through.

If you ever get a chance, go see some of the later animated movies from Disney, Pixar, or Dreamworks. They're not half-bad.
