Played an ATC practice match this week.

Great Reports as always, Love your armies and your reports. Much respect for your ability to play, are you participating in the ATC again this year? ( I am going to assume yes due to the fact you are doing a practice match)

wow. both armies require alot of finesse and have a very high skill cap to play.

im honestly captivated by each armies game play style. So many people play the marine move 6" armies that the game become so cookie cutter.

these armies defy the game, and are incredibly fun to watch.

Grats, and your webway army is truly captivating.

nightmare shround kept him in the game tho, I couldnt believe how many times you fell back.

One question I have, is why did he move his command barges so close to your melta? that didnt make sense to me.

I love WWP lists per definition and you have an interesting take on the concept

@Smitty: The reason I went so close to his board edge/melta is that the CCB is largely worthless in this matchup he doesnt have vehicles or anything worth sweeping. But if I put the CCB's over on his side it forces him to come in from reserves and react to me.

If he doesn't manage to take them down with str 6 melta or the blasters through Symbiotic repair and living metal then I have free reign to assault any of his units. If he does manage to take them down then only the squad that took him out of the transport would be able to charge him so scourges or trueborn or possibly warriors... I think the OL should win that combat.

On one side the plan worked great the witches charged the CCB didn't do enough dmg and the OL got out and assaulted the warriors. (He failed at killing them but that is another story).
The other CCB was taken down and it took 3 squads of shooting and alot of failed cover to Bring down that OL. This kept him on his side of the table away from the objectives and out of position.

The OL failing to get back up was key for Hyv3mynd and the Scarabs failing to run more than an inch then double 2's from charging kept his Out of Position Blaster scourges alive.

Most relevant take away is that he is playing a reserve list, so its important to impact where he comes in as much as possible. In this case the only table quarter with no objectives to force him to walk at my guns as much as possible.

There was solid reasoning and planning behind each of Dean's moves, but the dice decided the outcome as they often do.

There are some things he could do to really cripple my army, but I won't get into it yet as it would ruin half the fun of playing such an unpredictable army and I know there's going to be several tournaments we will both be attending this year =)

Nope. 2 units of immortals each with a veil-tek and lord which don't count as they are court members. His only HQs were overlords in command barges which cannot deploy in DoW, but came on flat-out on turn 1.

Cool batrep. I run a similar WWP list with a unit of Mandrakes as my brick instead of Grotesques. Nearly identical units and list play. I'm a firm believer that WWP lists were meant for the "out of the box" players and not the spam player.

Ahh, that's right. When I was reading 'lord', I was thinking 'overlord'.

Great battle report and battle.

These types of battles are my favorite type of games - a hotly-contested, very close see-saw battle that could have gone either ways. It just makes it really fun to read.

Congrats on pulling out the draw and to your opponent for playing his army so well.

Sweet man, I'd like to see that list sometime. I think mandrakes would be a lot of fun if they started loaded up with pain tokens.

@ jy2 ~ Yeah, I should have lost via objectives but I was still in pretty good shape by the end with my 700+pt deathstar still on the loose. DoW deployment tripped me up a turn but the biggest factor I that put me in the situation I was in were the veiling immortals. They're insanely hard to catch with an assault (after my beasts ran off) and way too resilient with an orb to shoot to death. I definitely need to try some new tactics if I face them in an objective mission again.

Really great report Aaron, I like this army so much more than your Grey Knights. It has so much flexibility and offers a really diverse threat profile to the enemy.

LOL, everyone likes (insert army name here) better than Grey Knights, even tho my GK are also diverse, flexible, and not spammy. It's kinda sad when tournament feedback (thinking about BAO) is dominated by people saying "I only had to play GK X times". I put so much work into that army, but I'm probably better off selling it and using the funds on a new army.

I meant that as a compliment to this army, I actually liked your GK build too It used a wide range of units, had some cool choices for henchmen in it that you do not tend to see and even did so with an Inquisitor who wasn't named Coteaz. I loved the psyocculum you included with that Plasma Cannon unit in that army as well.

It is more that this army is really unique and I find the battles you write up on it to be very engaging.

If anything, I think both these lists reflect an approach based on you played your Tyranid army that focused on synergy and mutual support to amplify power.

I am slowly working my way to that with my Daemons (although they are not nearly as interesting a codex),
