In response to the "what game needs a " and "worst" I decided to take it the exact opposite direction. What do you think some of the best sequels are? Feel free to add why you think it is worth noting. I am also more interested in comparisons, does the game do a good job living up to the original? Is it superior? Say whatever you want to say about it

Please note difference between Expansion and Sequels (you may include expansions but point it out in a seperate category).

The first two I can think of is
Half Life 2 (Sequel to Half Life... obviously)
Red Alert (Sequel to Command and Conquer)

Expansions I can only think of
Call of Duty: United Offensive

2000pts. Cadians
500pts Imperial Fist

F.E.A.R. 2 was good, Dead Space 2 was also amazing.

Do Spiritual Successors count? Because Dark Souls has to be one if they do.

Agree with these two completely, in fact just picked up the HD touch up of Silent Hill 2/3 on the 360. Mmmm achievements with my Horror gaming.

As to extras of my own,

Mass Effect 3 (ending issues aside, its been awesome, pretty much improvements across the board.)

Resident Evil 2 (Best game in the series as far as I'm concerned, almost put down Resi 3 as well, but it was a little less awesome than 2, and I've had little to no interest in the series since they left Raccoon City.)

Dynasty Warriors 7 (Fixed a load of issues with 5 and 6, brought in a new faction and added fifteen new characters, the most since DW3, and swapped out free mode for th much more entertaining and replayable conquest mode. Only shame for me was DW 7 XL not making into the 360, but other than that best game of the series, finally overtaking DW3.)

Eldar Scrolls V - Skyrim (Just so much to do, and although I probably preferred Morrowwind over Oblivion, Skyrim is just too much fun to play, and sadly sometimes graphics do make a difference.)

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (Personal preference showing through here, i am sure many would say San Andreas or IV as the best GTA, but for me the whole eighties vibe, and that being my era as a youngster, and the story, music and everything about it just makes it a massive favourite. Would love to see a HD remake of it at some point.)

Halo 3 (Although I probably like Reach the best so far, its a prequel so not sutable for the thread, however Halo 3 is still a great game and a excellent game to round off the series.)

Thats all thats comign to mind at the moment.

Kingdom Hearts II - the game just added so much more over its predecessor, like the fusion system, a new story with some of the coolest villains I've ever seen in a game, the Organization XIII, and all with that same Disney/Square charm.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - I would have put 3 on here, but it's technically a prequel. Metal Gear Solid 4 had an amazing story, some really gut-wrenching moments (especially near the end) and a lot of little nods to the first three games in the series. All in all a great game.

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time - While very similar in gameplay to Tools of Destruction, A Crack in Time really changed the overall tone of the series to being a little more serious. While it was still fairly silly at times, the series really sort of grew up with A Crack in Time, and the ending made me tear up a little bit.

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect - This game was just the epitome of the TimeSplitters franchise. They did away with the virtually story-less campaign from the first two games (there was story in the games, don't get me wrong, but it was more episodic than anything else) and made their campaign actually tell the story of Cortez ending the Time War. Plus with a more polished feel, better controls, and some kick-ass multiplayer, it was just a perfect sequel.

Assassin's Creed (every game after the first) - I mean, really. The first game was pretty good, but it was boring. As fun as it was to stalk a victim, learn his habits, and figure out a good time to kill him, it wound up becoming busy work after the 3rd or 4th time you were called to do it. That was literally the whole game - a few story segments about Abstergo, a bunch of conversations with Altair's mentor, and then 9 identical missions of "find info, kill guy." Assassin's Creed 2 added an actual story, following Ezio Auditore as he became a master assassin, and then in Brotherhood and Revelations, continued the tale to show how he became grand master of the Assassins, then discovered the secret of those who came before. Then with new gadgets, a way to recruit assassins, and an entire economy system to gather money for improvements, the later games of Assassin's Creed were astonishingly better than the original.

Aye on top of that it had a multiplayer, that let you enjoy a multiplayer regardless of whether you had friends round or could get online. Seriously, me verses three teams of three, ten man deathmatch, me and a buddy verses two teams fo four, damn it was good.

Still one of my most annoying not updated to 360 games, how none of the Timesplitters got a 360 update is criminal really.

Jak II was a complete change of mood compared to Jak and Daxter, and it was awesome. It brought an actual plot with a bunch of endearing characters and a much more diverse gameplay while keeping the excellent plaftormer elements. It really expanded on the first game while keeping the core intact, to the point J&D feels like a prologue at this point. Still, I like its naive and colourful atmosphere very much ; I think I'd have equal pleasure replaying either, just not exactly for the same reasons.

I loved the Map Maker in the TS games. I think TS2 was the only time I ever played around with it, but damned if I didn't fill up an entire memory card with one giant fortress of a map.

Apparently TS4 is indefinitely postponed.

In terms of the game serieses that simply improve upon the original in every concievable way, I'd have to say every iteration of the Total War series.

Shogun
Medieval
Rome
Medieval II
Empire
Napoleon
Shogun II

Every game still feels like a Total War game, handles the same way, and works great. However, every game adds new stuff without being bogged down in worthless mechanics. From the addition and improvement in Naval Battles to the arc-of-fire of gunpowder weapons, the series is the only one I've seen to simply get strictly better with every iteration.

It's as if I can take the modern Total War game, port over units/stats/maps from the prior iterations, and the game will play simply superior.

This is different than, say, the Civilization series. Each iteration is amazing on its own, but the gameplay is different enough such that you know you're still playing a Civ game, but it's a different Civ game. Total War is simply the same base mechanics and everything intuitively carries over, but simply better.

Ratchet & Clank 3 - My favourite game of all time, it took the second game, improved the combat and weapon balance, returned to the original galaxy, introduced my favourite villain from any game ever (Dr. Nefarious), had loads of little collectibles to find, and had awesome multiplayer to boot (for a PS2 game)

Pokemon Crystal - I spent so much time playing on this game, far more than on any of the others, and that was when It had far fewer pokemon and in-game events.

Mass Effect 2 - Having not played 1 (because I have a PS3) or 3 (because I don't have money), I have no idea about whether it improves on them, all I know is that the storyline was engaging, the characters were brilliant, the universe was huge and well-filled, and the combat was engaging, and varied enough to not become repetetive.
