Like any big units with lots of upgrades, what you should give him should depend on what the rest of your army needs.

I was thinking about lash of submission because it is good for keeping units away from objectives.

There are a few things that always work well.

Winds of chaos is always good against TEQ and even MEQ stuff.

Wings are a must have on any demon prince, otherwise he's a dead demon walking.

Bolt of change isn't bad and can provide some extra anti tank.

Beyond those three, there are some fun powers. Nurgles rot can work well in melee, gift of chaos is great if the dice gods are on your side, lash is of course useful... hell basically anything can be used, but winds of chaos is by far one of the best powers.

Wings are usually a very good idea. The CSM codex has no Fast units, so having a big beast that can zoom around to assault 18" can be an assent. Just don't send him -too- far away into enemy formations without support, or he'll get focused and nuked.

Lash is good, but there are so many transports in the game that it may take a while before it can be used safely. Also, many of te top-tier armies have hoods and other anti-psyker shenanigans that make it a crap shoot.

Mark of Nugle can also be good. It's pricey, but T5(6) makes sure that you'll take very few wounds from bolters and other S4 weaponry. Warptime is no longer worth it after the nasty nerf it got, so don't use it.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

I usually run a winged daemon prince of khorne, I know this isn't that popular but I've always had really good results with it. Those 6 attacks on the charge have done wonders for me in winning combat.

A standard demon prince with wings and MoK is still excellent for the buy. You don't have to take powers after all.

I've been fielding mine with mark of tzeentch and doombolt. That way he's not as vulnerable to long-range las/plas fire, and I don't really need cover as much. The doombolt is cheap for the extra shots and I don't bother with fancy powers, everyone else either has hoods or crazy-ass runes or dreadnoughts that make you take a test at -4 LD. Oh, and with wings and two at a time.

That being said if you know what you're up against ahead of time lash is still awesome.

Thanks guys really helpful stuff i think that i will have an easier time deciding what to run him with. The MOK is a really good idea considering how good the daemon prince is in close combat! Thanks once again!

Remember the demon prince doesn't have grenades, so going into terrain it always goes at int 1, but at the same time he's a monsterous creature, which gives him the move through cover USR

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Personally I run my DP with wings and MoN, backed up with a squad of 5 raptors with 2 meltas. They act as a charge shield and either kill transports so the DP can kill the squishy, or vice verca.

I usually try to run a couple of these groups, and often move them up behind a rhino for a bit of extra cover.

Personally knowing your play style, I say a MoT Prince with wings and some shooty upgrades (bolt of change comes to mind ( or whatever you crazy CSM call it)). also, the mark helps survivailbty,as Meade said.

yes that is a good tactic with the raptors! I am also thinking about making a chosen squad to help get rid of pesky heavy weapons squad. plus defilers are a good help with that

Bolt of change is pretty much a multimelta but a suckier one... for 25 pts, without the melta rule, and vulnerable to being shut down or perils. for 25 pts you can buy 2 more reliable melta shots somewhere else... in a chosen squad for instance... keep in mind that when you put that (or winds of change) on a DP with wings he gets to be very expensive. I just don't think it's worth it unless it enhances survivability. Of course I like to field em with a greater daemon as well so I get 3 MC's on the board hopefully.
