Space Marines have got to be GW's largest collection of miniatures for a single race, so I guess it's inevitable that there'll be a load that don't get done for some time.

Out of interest, which ones is it that you're looking for (links would be helpful)

With 6th ed looming and the rumoured switch to Dark Angels as the poster boys, it could be theorised that either a) Marines will get an overhaul at 6th ed time, as they're the flagship race or b) Marines will get an overhaul, though changes to finecast will mostly be kept to DA models for the first few runs.

All theories, no facts I'm afraid.

What models can't you get anymore? I know Space Wolves-specific scouts are missing, but not sure about what else.

and the chapter masters.
And a few of the chaplains.

Bummer, I didn't see they dropped Telion. I never got him, but thought he was a cool model.

As for Chaplains, I;d like to be able to get all the 2nd edition Chaplains and Librarians, but I guess that's ebay.

For those in the know, when a product says "will dispatch in one-two weeks" is that true? Or they just on permanent hold? Because i have seen models that I supposed were OOP, (like metal Fire Dragons), just a few days ago on on the site and they said that under them.

Hey, I hate to be off-topic-ish, but what exactly is the difference? I understand that "finecast" are a nicer quality of model, but why can't you get the model otherwise? Do they make models that are finecast only? And if they aren't making the model you want in finecast, did they stop production on the regular version? (As elementary as these questions might seem, please try to keep in mind that I'm absolutely new to the hobby )

They do have a lot of Chaplains, and I think there would be a lot of different molds to maintain. Although having that large of a variety of them does seem pretty silly.

It would seem that GW should be able to make the non-named HQ into plastic sets.

I think they would do perfectly fine with a "Librarian/Chaplain" plastic kit. Maybe one for PA and one for TDA. Different weapon loadouts, shoulder pads, helmets. Really would make sense to just have 1 multi-part plastic kit instead of 10 finecast models.

Maybe they are working on something similar, but they usually still sell everything right until the point of the switch-over...

True, make a duo kit that is sold like the Commander kit. That would be pretty cool.

The way it's happening:
Metal models still for sale are most likely just existing stock, with nothing new actually being made yet. They do large production runs and some things will just sit around for awhile. With them shifting to a Direct Only measure for most metals however, it means that you have to deal directly with GW--which allows them to have a bit better of a grasp as to how much stock of model X is still selling, versus model Y.

Truth be told, I'm surprised we still don't have a Terminator armored Chapter Master plastic kit.

Why someone would want finecast? Well its may have to do that most of it are vastly superiour to the old stuff. In my humble opinion that is,

Well, despite finecast being more prone to miscasts, it's still better in many other ways. Doesn't weight as much (which ensures the pieces hold together easier as there's not as much weight to support) and paint doesn't chip off, not as damaged as metal from falling (due to weight).
Really, the only bad part is the risk of miscasts, an issue easily solved by going to the store you bought it and asking for a replacement.

I guess you haven't tried working with it yet. How can something be both soft and brittle at the same time? It seemingly bends on its own but when you try to bend it back into shape it snaps off. I've had a couple of nice finecast models, both dark elf, but every necron figure I've got has been complete junk.

True.

and paint doesn't chip off, not as damaged as metal from falling (due to weight).

The one time I dropped a cryptek, half of his staff broke off.

I've also heard that it is almost impossible to strip paint off of finecast. Because of its soft, porous nature, even products like Simple Green, which are safe for plastic can damage it, and don't try to scrub it with a toothbrush without grinding away detail.

OP; you're honestly better off looking for the metal versions. You have to be lucky or very forgiving with Finecast or you'll end up riding the replacements train for a long time. I am not very forgiving on miniatures in this price bracket. When things go well I'll shout about it (I got a flawless* Elspeth and Carmine dragon from Forgeworld today, it is beautiful.) but when something is obviously, painfully wrong, I will warn people off it.

*: Not 'acceptable', not 'very good', not even 'brilliant', but FLAWLESS. Not one bubble (and if you know the model, you'll know that this is an extremely unlikely occurence).

Yup, all the way. I'm starting an Eldar army, and all my Exarchs/Aspect warriors are coming from Ebay. I'm not getting ripped off by paying for the new Finecast boxes. I just got a perfect condition, pure-metal Dark Reapers squad equivalent to the Finecast boxed set (1 exarch, 4 warriors) for 15 dollars less than GW's price including shipping.
