Not only a rather silly idea but also a terrible paintjob for such a new release!

It is really old school and I am glad they brought it back. Also they have been doing April Fools jokes for ages. But this was put up 4 days ago

The paintjob can be attributed to the fact that they in fact use the old metal versions of this model they already have (in many cases veeery old).

No that really used to be an Empire unit and as Hoverboy said the paint scheme looks like that as it's the original one (I was painting some up in January and was using the exact same scheme for reference on how to do them).

GW do things for April Fools day though I didn't see one today. Last year was the new How to Roll Dice book and before then was the multibarrelled spray gun allowing you to fully paint units with one quick spray.

I was on the gw site and was expecting something like the how to roll citadel dice book. But this model is in resin now woow. My friend got one of the last metal ones a week or so ago haha.

Overview of the WoC army book.

Ahh... so it's the same silly 'nostalgia' value that motivates people to suggest that squats were cool.

Gotcha

Nah, the halflings have always been meant as a comic relief type of unit (while the squats weren't actually meant to be funny, even though looking back now, they certainly look like they were). I think the halflings do exactly that same thing nowadays that they did then: good for a few laughs - but potentially effective in the game nonetheless.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

The fact that it's an ancient model made from a far cheaper material sold for a far higher price - that's the joke.

And the joke's on us.

Honestly, I have no idea why they would have switched this model to finecast. Is it really that great of a seller?

If there's really going to be a halfling hotpot available in the new Empire book and they're not going to update the model...count me out.

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

Yeah, in this case, you're trolling. Commenting on finecast was a deliberate attempt to incite a negative reaction. It wasn't at all what the OP was talking about - he was talking about the paintjob.

You have to think that they were either drinking or on drugs when they thought lets make halflings and watching LOTR at the time.

That model was made long before there were LOTR movies. Except maybe the psychedelic Bashki thing.
...Wait...by god you're right.

There was a citadel journal that featured a halfling army.
A few regiments of halfling bowmen were the only thing that ever won vs. My slayer army.
