It's a joke. I picked a French and German language to represent Krieg. (It's a joke.) Low Gothic is not any specific language, and does not necessary come from a specific language. All it means is that it is not High Gothic.

I realize there's a lot of issues with what is "canon," but I think the above would be a pretty good definition.

It's a lot better than one of the recent discussions here where someone was trying to say that there shouldn't be a distinction in canon between BL and GW productions and fan fiction because it's all part of the same universe. Fanfiction is completely unmoderated, unless it's done on a wiki that has quality control and oversight.

BTW, it's also illegal to call your fanfic canon, as it would violate GW's policy about not calling it official.

In the IoM every world/system has its own language (sometimes it is a form of Gothic) for internal use and will use High Gothic for official documents and inter-planet communications.

I think I got it, since English is more or less derived from the roots of French and German (from what I understand, don't crucify me, history nazis). So if the Krieg models have elements of French and German WW1 infantry, they "should" be speaking English, not German.

Agreed, it's bad enough what you limeys did to it.

Don't go claiming "ownership" rights to it, either. Not so much stolen, but knocked down in a dark alley and had its pockets rifled for spare verbs and tenses.

There are more dialects of English spoken in Britain alone than everywhere else in the world. You can have people in neighbouring counties not understand each other.

This! In my home state of Kentucky, them's fightin words.

On the subject of all the dialects, according to a lot of history stuff I've read, Appalachian dialect (aka hillbillies) is one of the closest dialects to what brits used back in the 1700's. While it's obviously changed some, it's supposedly still very close. Note that I'm not talking about the stereotypical one you see in the cartoons, I'm talking about real, honest to god Appalacians from eastern Ky, west virginia, and others in that area. However, this is only really true for the people that are WAY back in the hollars (basically a boxed in valley) where the phrase "ship the sunshine in" isn't a joke, it's a fact of life.

So there you go, brits all sounded like hillbillies 200-300 years ago. Everyone else just fixed the "english" language after it managed to escape it's evil tea drinking overlords
