Oh boy... My map was created around 1.2... I think I should just get rid of it at this point. All my strip mines are tapped out anyway

I think it was mentioned earlier but I can't find it. How can I stop the portal at my house linking to someone elses in the nether?

Find the co-ords of your house, and divide the x and z by 8.
Then, build a portal at that positon in the nether.
That way, it will link to your portal.

we were discussing this earlier, and I pointed out that though it would fit nicely, I doubt notch would make it so that you have to make a nether portal just to let you go into an entirely different world. there isn't really anything as easy to obtain but awkward to handle as obsidian, so I think the method of lighting would be different.

word is you go there randomly when sleeping, once you are there you can mine some new rare materials to make a portal

Well that could suck, when you build your portal back from the aether you could be ages from your house....

I suppose you get spawned in the aether at the corresponding coordinates of your bed. Otherwise it would be a bit silly to get teleported miles away from your house.

In the Aether though, notch will think up something stupid to do. I mean in the nether he made giant floaty marshmallows that spit fire at you and scream when your close. He will probably end up adding Ostriches that can fly and 'make' baby ostriches. They will keep coming. It will be covered with Ostriches, as the nether is filled with... Mushrooms! Eventually I want notch to make apples fall from trees (1% chance when destroying a leaf) and cocoa beans to grow, like wheat.

Nobody plant mushrooms in the aether. We have enough in the nether thank you very much.
