So after seeing the third or fourth "Why does everyone hate Mat Ward?", "This is Why We Hate Mat Ward!" or "The Objective Mat Ward Hate Thread" thread, I thought I would take up a little poll to answer the real question... How many people hate those threads?
Now, I feel I should point out, this isn't a matter of wondering WHY people hate or don't hate Mat Ward. The question is, how badly do you hate threads bitching, complaining, white knighting, and otherwise going on and on about him.

Most of the time i find them comical to read!

Fantasy players have a very legitiment reason to hate the man since he only killed off an entire edition of the game with the Daemons disaster, then followed that up by making a complete mockery of the magic phase in 8th edition with half the magic lores... As an undead player, (VC's), 8th did us even worse by almost completely killing off any kind of potential untill we got our new army books!
(go look up 'One List to Rule Them All' in the dictionary and you'll see just about every single VC list for the past year and a half!)

But most of the complaints are either people jumping on the hate-fest, or else just whining about his books being more powerfull than theirs... We know his books tend to be OTT and come off as being an 'easy mode' most the time. (Hellooooo Blood Angels, the army of 'how many USRs can we pile into one book'?!) But occasionally he gets it right with the likes of Space Marines & Necrons.

I simply have the bad luck of seemingly picking up the armies he's singled out for a massive nerfing either through a rules re-write, or else his newest codex. (Daemons vs GK's anyone?!)

@Experiment 626: Are you looking for the "The Objective Mat Ward Hate Thread"?

You spent a lot of the time in your post talking about why people hate Mat Ward and not why people hate the threads about Mat Ward.



Personally, I hate Mat Ward Threads because they are very formulaic, often invoking the same arguments over and over from the last thread. I bet if I stepped into one early enough, I could predict the entire flow of the conversation for however many pages it went before it was canned by the mods.

As well, I think that neither side actually acknowledges fact on a regular basis and just regurgitates previously mentioned formulaic answers making the threads ultimately pointless.

I prefer them to "WHO WOULD WIN" threads, and the conversation is usually about as banal and repetitive. Regardless, they both make me want to rip my eyes out.

How have you been such an active member of Dakka and missed the dozens of Mat Ward hate threads? Or the hundreds of snide remarks in other threads?

Actually, if the entire community rails against a single book loudly enough, it does aparently get GW's attention! They've stepped up and admitted how bad 7th ed Daemons are, and I'd be willing to be that when they come up for a re-do, Fantasy Daemons will be one of mid to lower end books of 8th!

So this is an "objective" thread which asks for people subjective opinions about Matt Ward threads? Ok, well they make sense at least. I'll say that about them.

I kind of like them. I can perform a mild rant, read a few other rants, and than leave not carrying about it anymore.

They arnt a big deal to me

Since thrre are two "objective" Matt Ward poll threads active rght now, will one please be locked so the discussion can be unified?

The threads don't bother me. I don't really care for them but don't hate them. I've only started one but that was back when I started because I was just asking who Mat Ward is.

There should just be one almighty matt ward hate thread, instead of a million little ones. If all these threads combined their powers they could potentially take over dakka. Who knows maybe the universe.

The whole point of my "objective hate" threads isn't to get into the whole "why we hate this guy or this army" debate. All I really want is to know how many people actually DO hate the object of the poll. In some cases, like the Tau, the poll makes it apparent that the haters are in fact a vocal minority. In other cases, such as the Ultramarines, it shows me that opinions are much more evenly split. I'm not interested in arguing about how much or why we feel the way we do, I just want a headcount.
