Caution, this link and possibly the rest of this topic should the contents of this link be discussed is the equivalent of a spoiler.
It will spoil both the major plot of the book (I'll give you that much), and the rest of what will become an incredibly miserable, miserable life.

Spoiler:

It's another Dan Abnett Inquisitor novel, featuring both Ravenor and Eisenhorn, to be released in November 2012. I understand that this is a logical decision in the future of the storyline, but...

I really liked the Eisenhorn books, but a confrontation between Ravenor and Eisenhorn was inevitable. I want to say alot more, but for the sake of spoilers I will say no more.

Calm yourself. This is most likely book one of the Bequin trilogy that Abnett has spoken about, which means it takes place between the Eisenhorn and Ravenor novels.

Maybe, but not by the information on the other page there. Though, as TheCrazyCryptek says, this was inevitable.

its also part of the fluff already, read the gaunt books and a few others, its already been stated that Ravenor ended the "eisenhorn heresy", thing is, we know eisenhorn as soon as he allowed cherubael to live was dammed, its choas man, the longer it has to sink its claws in, the more screwed you are

Actually, since Gaunt came first, I'm not entirely sure Abnett had the characters of Eisenhorn and Ravenor firmly set in his mind at the time. It's very possible that the "Eisenhorn heresy" is something he had in mind as a throw-away line for the GG series, or had planned to do something with it later but then changed his mind as the character of Eisenhorn was more fully fleshed-out, or something else entirely...

All I'm really saying is, is don't read too deeply into the mention of Ravenor and Eisenhorn in the Gaunt novels, since even in-universe, they're separated by several centuries.

I'l have to read it, but yeah I could see something like this happening. He may have turned to chaos or yet be another of his "Skirting" the edge he has gotten away with many times.

Should be a good read regardless.

Honestly I like the concept. We've seen Eisenhorn as a hero for 3 books now and a subtle hinting that he is gradually falling to Chaos despite his altruistic intentions like Quixos before him.

Now if Eisenhorn starts yelling "DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR" I'll have a problem. But if he starts doing horrible things and experimenting further with the daemonic in the name of fighting Chaos to the point where he doesn't even realize he has been corrupted (this basically happened to guys like Quixos), that would be fine.

I trust that Dan will do a fantastic job on this series of books, and that we'll get some unexpected twists and turns along the way... it is going to be awesome, have no fear!

Eisenhorn and Ravenor are put at odds because of a prophecy given to Ravenor by his Farseer "mentor".

Well, since this thread is already full of spoilers. I'll make the point I wanted to make earlier.

Not only did Eisenhorn use Cherubael, but a Lord Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus was killed because of Eisenhorn and his demon pet! That alone warrents his death at the Inquisitions hands.

Is this really such a bad thing? They were both good series, written by the same writer, it's not something like Alien vs Predator.

...Because while both went and got themselves excommunicated, one came back and took responsibility for his actions while the other embraced the darker powers and ran off with it. There's no reason they wouldn't butt heads at some point.

They should have just left Quixos to his devices. Sure he did a bunch of evil crap, but he also figured out a way to collapse the Eye of Terror.

Spoiler:
"Inquisitor Gideon Ravenor returns to action to hunt the most dangerous enemy he has ever encountered, a disgraced inquisitor, driven by obsession to bind daemons to his will and consort with heretics. For Ravenor, this is more than just a manhunt; it is personal. This foe was once his greatest ally and most trusted friend: his old mentor, Gregor Eisenhorn."

Aside from simply being so stereotypical as to be utterly boring, what's wrong with this storyline again?`

Might I suggest adding the title of the book(s) you are spoiling so people are aware of whether to click or not? Dan's a fairly prolific writer.

Have you read the Ravenor or Eisenhorn books? Dan can make things that would be stupid or stereotypical in the hands of other writers absolutely amazing.

Define "ended the Eisenhorn heresy" (haven't actually read all the gaunt books I think, want to solve that). Because he ended an "Eisenhorn conspiracy" in the second book, and it was considered to be pretty major as they all but blamed the Thracian atrocity on Eisenhorn.

I think I'd like to find in this upcoming book that Eisenhorn was well aware that he'd stepped over the line, was well aware that he was damned beyond salvation, and was just trying to do his best before the Inquisition caught up with him. I wouldn't like to find that he was some kind of blithering mutated cultist, or even worse, that he'd gone and turned out the same way as Quixos and thought he was still very much on the right side. I trust Dan Abnett won't consign him to a that; at minimum they are both plot lines he has already done. At the same time, there's no way Ravenor wouldn't encounter related resistance along the way to terminating Eisenhorn, both from Eisenhorn's side of the ring (an overprotective Cherubael fits) or from his own side of the ring (people who used to serve Eisenhorn, like Nayl, Kara, etc). It will be a messy, messy affair at any rate and that is why I am dreading this. :(

Eisenhorn has already come to that realization and has discussed the points with Ravenor. Eventually, the battle against Chaos will inevitably expose you to corruption, it will get its fingers in you, and combined with necessity will force you to go to far. The goal is to do as much good as you can before you fall.

That's good, because that's probably what it in reality is going to be!

Also, ignore Melissia on this subject - Dan's Eisenhorn and Ravenor series are both some of the best 40K fiction out there, and hold up quite well as 'just' SF books too.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I liked the first two Eisenhorn books quite a lot. The third one was a bit disconnected, sort of a 'trilogy for trilogy's sake' given that the major thru-plot of that started in the first book was resolved by the end of the second. The climax of the third was pretty good though.

I need to read the Ravenor books.

Book 3 of the Eisenhorn series was tying up some loose ends, really, because we'd last seen guy-in-a-box getting a new robot-body from an AdMech guy, which we all new could not have ended well.

Ah yes, because I didn't enjoy them as much as you, I shiould be ignored.

Trolls...

I never said they were bad, but they certainly needed better pacing.

I haven't read the Ravenor Omnibus, but I thought the Eisenhorn series was really good! I think Dan made a reference to a third trilogy in the Eisenhorn Omnibus as well. And Melissia, you have a point. The pacing is quite strange, especially in the third book.
