Somewhere in the Galactic East

I was picking through a Space Marines Codex the other day and kind of picking my brain about an interesting theme for a Chapter and decided on making three distinct companies: A recon company, troop company, and a Elite company

And I was wondering if a Scout heavy army could actually be doable, given the options inside the vanilla Marine codex.

They have scouts for Troops
A Scout + Landspeeder Storm Combo (w/ shotguns and a power fist!)
A couple Scout Bike Squads (with snare mines)

And maybe a couple Predators for some lacking umph?

I chose a Captain and Honor Guard on Bikes with a Chapter Standard for the HQ and as a mini-Deathstar.

But what do you experienced Space Marine players think about an all Scout army?

182nd Ebon Hawks - 2000 Points
"We descend upon them like lightning from a cloudless sky."

Va'Krata Sept - 2500 Points
"The barbarian Gue'la deserve nothing but a swift death in a shallow grave."

Ive tried it at 1000 points and it wasnt great.
lots of snipers, telion, scouts in storm, scout bikers.

didnt have survivabilty, the bikers were not too bad, not enough hitting power either really.
Storm is good

better off as supporting units

You might like this army i came up with, its scout heavy 3 squads of scouts and scout bikers, but i like to think still quite nasty. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/441551.page

I think it works as a mass assult list with shrike (infiltrate 19" away scout 6" move, run assult) backed up with long ranged scouts (for missile launchers to pop transports) tear em up.

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

Hard but doable

I'd go a libby, the capt. doesn't bring much, the libby can null zone and gate scouts to objectives. Not the greatest HQ, but hey you gotta take one so if you HQ isn't going to do much heavy lifting in your army, might as well take the one that costs you the less for the most bang. Null zone will help against dedicated nasty CC units with good invuls, say TH/SS terms, which you won't really have a counter to outside AP2/1 fire. Speeders of different varieties, shooty/mixed dreads, preds bring heavy fire to the army. The other HS to consider is TF cannons, as you get a small footprint, good anti-infantry firepower and +1 to a piece of cover, which can be useful.

Hope this inspires them creative juices

You might want to consider Tech Marines or Master of the Forge to get bolster defenses, pair that with camo cloaks and you can get some nice cover saves,

The standard idea of using shrike and 6 squads of scouts with CCW and a sarge with combi-melta and powerfist, plus 3 scout speeders with multimeltas, then put shrike in a squad of something nasty like 10 TH/SS terminators and snake them back to attach a chaplin.

Alpha strike first turn, clean up the rest with the termies. Add in thunderfire cannons for good laughs.

I had an idea similar to this ok so run 3 landspeeder storms with scouts CCW and BPs and another 2 with SRs and Missile launchers to deal with tanks probably suported by dreads or a perdetor or 2! PS:good idea about the techs!
