So, I played my first game of Infinity the other night - it was just a basic quick start game - my 3 Nomad Moderators vs my mate's 3 Pan-O Fusiliers.
First: THIS GAME IS AWESOME AND I LOVE IT!!!! Okay, apologies for the caps lock but not for the sentiment. I have been playing wargames for 25 years and have never found anything that 'feels' like this one. It manages to be both insanely complex and incredibly intuitive. The mechanics make everything behave exactly as I would expect it to in real life.
Second: This game is brutal - it is so easy to be punished for minute errors in positioning that would go unnoticed in a game like 40k. Manouvre, sequencing and synergy seem to be the key to getting anywhere. I can see this game having an incredibly steep learning curve.
Third: Having painted the three Moderators I needed for the game, I can't wait to do the others I've got. The figures are simply a joy to paint, with just the right balance between detail and open areas on the sculpting. These models are without doubt the best sculpts I have ever worked with. GW take note - finecast is not the best that can be done - these are
Thanks to all the community on Dakka who are trying to grow Infinity. This game deserves a wider audience and I think it will have one. Now I need to paint my Sin-Eater and Reverand Moira for my first full-on 100pt game next week - will post pictures as soon as I can (i.e. when I can persuade my technologically sophisticated wife to help a luddite like me use the camera and upload the pics )

Great stuff and glad you enjoyed it! I felt exactly the same way after my first game.
I really think it is an evolutionary step forward in miniature wargaming. To draw a crude analogy, I think it's the specially prepared gourmet dinner compared to the 'fast food' of other games. The fast food can be fun at times and enjoyed easily, but if you take time to sit down with the gourmet dinner, saver each mouthful and the way the tastes perfectly balance with each other, you ultimately can get a lot more out of it.
Sorry I'll go now

Thanks for your impressions - certainly looking forward to getting a game of Infinity at some point (though I may have to wait until some kind of Dakka gaming meet is organised for this :().

I'm working on it damn you! Also, Arakasi has reminded me of a clever way for us to get some games in as a community. Bit of a facepalm moment for me, that one.

Welcome to Infinity. It is hands down my favorite miniature game of all time. It did things that I didn't even know I wanted a miniature game to do.
The game gets less brutal the more you play it. With other miniature games, I am more than ready to throw up my hands and declare something is broken or unbalanced. In Infinity, when I get beat by a list, all I want to do is figure out a way to beat it back.

I'm glad you liked it. Just wait until you get to hacking, TO camouflage and other nasty stuff. I might be an evil bastard but there is nothing funnier than reveling your TO camo little dude behind your opponents little dudes and yelling "surprise".
I don't know is it just me or Infinity gives you the most realistic tabletop simulation of a real fire fight.

Hey all, I'm also just getting into Infinity. Purchased one model so far, for the painting comp, and I love it!
Thank all you Infinity supporters for making it more popular!

Chimera_Calvin, welcome aboard! Yes, small things like positioning can be incredibly decisive in Infinity, but that level of detail somehow also makes it easier to shrug and say 'Oh well, guess I was facing the wrong way- roll to shoot me in the back!" with much better humor than one sees in a lot of higher-mini-count games. The exacting details is so much fun with only 10 figs on the board!
IMO the best part about Infinity is the incredibly balanced basic mechanic meeting the really wide variety of tactics. That only gets better as you master the basic rules and get into crazy stuff like hacking and indirect fire, as others have mentioned above.
Just as a bit of guidance, after you've got the basic rules down and have worked on things like Airborne tactics and hacking, you might find basic kill-em-all games to become a bit routine. The next step is to play missions. While there aren't a lot of published missions from CB (there are only two, Lost Post and Beachhead, which are both available in their site's download section), those two are really fun.
Of the fan-created missions out there, my personal favorite is the Yet Another Mission System. It has basic objectives drawn randomly and in secret for each game. Your opponent might end up having to assassinate your Lt., search a piece of terrain, and get half his army into your half of the board to win. You might at the same time have to kill his highest-point model, get into his DZ, and drop a beacon somewhere on the board. The next game, you'll have a totally different set of objectives. It's really fun! Find it here: http://wargamingtrader.com/infinity/yams_1_0

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

That was very much my 1st reaction to the game too -- good stuff!
Silver, you're only about an hour's drive from me, if you're in Stoke -- you'd be welcome to come and have a game here. Or, come along to Gauntlet, or to one of the Deeside Defenders gaming weekends:

Might be, like, 70 minutes. I don't go to every Deeside Defenders event but do intend to be at Gauntlet, and would be happy to play a few Infinity games there.

Thanks for the welcome, guys
As promised I have pictures of my force here
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/445402.page
Since that first 3 vs 3 game we moved up to 100pts (adding a sin-eater and reverand moira to my moderators). I am slowly starting to get a handle on the rules interactions (although I've lost all 4 games so far )
The sin-eater I love (and I'll like even more when my order comes through from Maelstrom with the HMG-armed variant in it ) Neurocinetics makes for a great 'point-man' and so far he's been the only success story in the force.
My opponent is so paranoid about the reverand moira getting anywhere near him I have no idea what she does (a remote with a flame thrower got behind her on the first game, a sniper picked her off in the second) but I'm hoping next time I can use the paranoia in my favour by using her as bait for a trap...
As for the Moderators, I'm convinced that they will do more in bigger games where their shock immunity and electric pulse will come into play. At this level they seem to operate as a less accurate version of my opponents fusiliers and die really quickly. Must get my head around the link-team rules too to give them a boost.
Anyway, next game tomorrow night. 120pts and a first outing for my Zero minelayer . Time to think of a cunning plan, Baldrick...
