Plummeting Black Templar Thunderhawk Pilot

Okay, so I have my two armies (BT and Tau) basically all painted and am getting a little burned out painting the same things over and over again. I am looking for something different and fun to paint on the individual model/unit scale. So my question to you guys is what are some of the fun models that you've painted and would suggest as something to paint to break up the monotone.

I'm thinking either;
1) Something tyranid. Maybe a Hive Tyrent or warriors
2) An eldar aspect squad or farseer
3) One of the Newcron Characters

Anything ork, there is a lot of humor based around how simple they are. Some of the figs that GW has ever produced has been the orks.

The Hierophant was a pretty good project, but I guess that's not in your budget

I know the model is pretty old, but the Eldar Avatar was a fun painting exercise. It was nice to do things a little differently thanks all the 'reverse shading' - painting it to have light showing through the gaps and the outside much darker.

Come to think of it, many of my Eldar models were interesting to paint, from freehand on the grav-tanks to the way all aspects are in different colour schemes. Always something new to do.

I'll just leave this here... EDIT: Oh I read it as funniest model! Jumped the gun a little bit.

Even still these were really fun to make.
The first is an objective marker, second is a segway rough rider!

Silly things like this are great to do when you're tired of painting the same old thing.Just let your Imagination run wild...

Objective markers are really fun to make. And they aren't always silly.

And this was pretty fun too...

On a more serious note. I really liked assembling and painting my leman russ. The older kit (last edition I think?) to be more precise. There's Just so many things that you can do!

Try a Chaos Space Marine Defiler they are just bloody awesome, they look like heaps of fun to assemble and paint . Or you could try a special character from another faction, Ork warbosses look pretty cool, or maybe a fancy hero like Marneus Calgar or one the CSM special characters.

My zombie count-as Harker. Came out of it with a sense of theme for my army, a showy pieces than nobody else had and a better understanding of how to paint flesh

Honestly the most fun things to paint have been models I converted myself, I don't find myself trying to stick to anyone else's themes when doing them and it gives me a far clearer image of what I think the model should be.

I'm going to switch it up and ad an i to funnest to make it "Funniest" model you've painted.

Spoiler:

So you know how you get a lot of extra stuff from the Chimera spures? Yeah, gotta put them to use. I usually call him my Company Commander just for some giggles for everyone. I am still working on him and the pic above is from two weeks ago so I've got more done. And yes, that is a lasgun in his crotch.

So you want something fun to do? Make something you won't use! I know you get extra bitz in BT and Tau vehicles that could go to use. Maybe a powerfisted Fire Warrior would be a light-hearted change of pace!

I agree. I interrupted the soul-crushing tedium of painting necrons by converting up my cryptek band so that even though they are basically painted the same as everything else I was doing they were still fun enough to break up the monotony. Ditto my Ultramarine not-a-stormraven star wars kit conversion when I doing lots of marines (and the mantic not-a-thunderfire-cannon I'm working on now).

I also like to switch to some other smaller skirmish games and paint stuff for those to break up a big army paint run. Doing a half dozen zombie apocalypse survivors for Fear & Faith, or a small squad of weird war German veil-truppen for my SOTR army, or the undead pirates for Flashing Steel I've just based all puts in enough variation to stop me getting so bored I stop painting entirely.

Converting or using non GW models as proxy's once in a while can help break monotony when painting large amounts of models.

Ive got to admit, I dont particularly enjoy painting. Its something I do to finish the mini. I greatly enjoy the building/converting part, painting not so much.

I used to enjoy it more when I did scale models, or Battletech mech (I painted each one differently) but doing gaming minis that require a large amount of repetition have burned me out.

For me personally it would of have to been the chaos lord in terminator armour model which was quite amussing to paint.. aspecially the trophies. Since my brother (when he was into 40k) collected Ultramarines so I thought I might enjoy painting the model a little more (and get a laugh or two when I showed the finished model to him) if I painted all the loyalist space marine helmets as Ultramarines
