Hey Guys/Gals/etc,
As odd as this may sound I've never used Paypal to transact outside of an online shop or eBay in years...years, and I'm sure it's changed quite a bit. I've negotiated a transaction with a guy that I met on eBay because I wanted a part lot of an army he was selling. Price agreed upon and almost ready to pay. So when using paypal I'm assuming I'm going to select "Goods" from the Purchase tabs, and right now that's as far as I can take it. But is there anything I should note in the paypal transaction for extra protection should the sale go awry. Any advice from experienced Paypaler would be appreciated. Also, if there's a sticky I missed somewhere slap me and provide link. Much thanks in advance.

You could also request that he sends an invoice. Once invoiced you can pay through the invoice itself.
You will be protected under paypals buyer protection. No worries.

He'll send the invoice through paypal it'll show up on your control panel (I did this last week lol because I was in your shoes) Just have him send it pay him through whatever means you're choosing and your safe from any mishaps and he gets his money. win-win. Make sure the invoice says goods though or toys as long as it's not "gift"

Paypal will take care of you, as long as you don't change your payment type to "gift" in which case that's all on you. If you say you're paying for goods or services, they will protect you. For instance, I recently got scammed and all I had to do was open a claim on Paypal and now if I don't get my stuff in the next couple days I get my money back, easy as that.

Another lesson to remember is to always ship with tracking yourself so that you do not have to worry about somebody using this knowledge against you. As far as paypal is concerned any item not shipped with tracking was not shipped at all.

#1: Never, ever select "gift". Always select "goods".
#2: I always include the transaction details in the comments/notes field, with very specific quantities and item descriptions, and whether or not shipping is included.

I had a case recently. Bought something with only an email kinda invoice (was a private deal). Added the information in the description of the transaction (you have this option in the process of paying with paypal).
It took weeks. The seller told me he sent it which he didn't. He came up with excuses.
I didn't worry and reported the case to paypal.
A few weeks later I had my money back.
