So I was wondering if there is any loyal chapters that make use of chain axes? I remember reading that the minotaurs use them but I can't remember where I read that.

They use pretty much the same weaponry as chaos, axes, mauls, and all sorts of things.

Chain axes, like power mauls and barbs, etc fell out of use after the Horus Heresy. They're still in use by marines, but not on such a large scale-ie chapter heirlooms. There probably is chapters out there that exclusively use them as part of a tradition, but they're typically used as an artistic motif for Chaos as they're more barbaric looking than a sword. The Space Wolves and such chapters presumably would make use of them , as they use power axes, but I think that it would conflict with the art established art styles for them to be included in box sets widely. =/

There are some chapters that use chain axes

off lexicanum

Before the Horus Heresy, the Chainaxe was commonly issued to Marine assault squads during the Great Crusade. A handful of assault oriented Space Marine chapters such as the Flesh Tearers have been known to still utilize them on occasion.3

Minotaurs once (still?) had that in-joke of being perhaps loyalist World Eaters / cursed founding of World Eater stock. So giving them "chaos" weapons sorta underlined the point.

As said above, all chapters could use chain-axes in theory, though for aesthetic distinction, GW tends to stick them with the Chaos Guys.

Space Sharks and Flesh Tearers still do. They just don't really have models available.

Further support to my theory. Hooray.

Thanks guys for the responses, I'm currently working on some loyalists marines using a combination of parts from the space marines command set and the berzerker set. I'll post some pics in my blog if you guys want to see how they turn out.

I would definately like to see them.

I actually put a berserker chainsword on one of my =][=munda deathwatch marines, and they work fine for loyalists.

Can't wait to see them.

Forge World makes some Chain Axes. 10 for 8.50 UK moneys (I don't have that symbol on my keyboard).

Pretty bitchin' and no chaos symbols.

The Dornian Heresy World Eaters continued to use them, which is kind of off-topic, but still the first thing that popped into my head. I'd bet that some of the Chapters with a greater emphasis on the 'relics of the past' angle probably have one or two. (Salamanders jump to mind.)
