Going to dueling grounds tomorrow in , going to buy aobr. Is it worth the 95 bucks plus paint price? Did you find it useful?

I didn't play the orks, but if you have a friend who wants to get into the hobby it is well worth it imo. The two forces are fairly balanced, just make sure to read the rules and not be ignorant like me and my friends were.

It's a fantastic start to an Ork army, especially if you trade off or sell the Marine half, or split it with a buddy/storegoer. It's still a good value, and you get a legal Ork army right out of the box. You will need a codex though.

You get the following orks-wise.

18 slugga/choppa boyz
2 big shoota boyz
5 nobz with choppa/sluggas
1 Warboss with PK and twinlinked shoota
and 3 TL-Rokkit deffkoptas.

Not sure what you get marines wise, but the orks stuff gets you a good start. Not neccessarily the most competitive setup ever, but it gets you a lot of little things that you'll need when you're starting. The big thing though is it'll get you a rulebook and templates, and those are worth a good chunk of change on their own as well.

Oh and another good thing is that the Nobz with aobr, a very cool looking, more so than the regular ones, my friend uses them as his sqaud nobz.
Marines get
1 Captain
1 Dreadnaught
5 Termies
10 Tactical marines, one with flamer, one with rocket.

I've mentioned before, but back when they cost $90 Unless you were playing a speed freaks army, AoBR was a better battleforce than the actual battle force box.

If you intend to have a horde style army, picking up the set, plus a few more Black Reach boyz off of ebay or the swap shop is definitely the way to go. If you don't like the poses on them, they are so cheap that its a good way to cut your teeth for conversions, as well as being a good base to make the most of your Loota/Burna boxes, or to convert some other kind of Boy

It's a pretty dang good start. My only word of warning is that it doesn't come with any options...the boss has a klaw and a TL shoota, and all of the boyz and nobz (except for the two big shoota boyz) have slugga and choppa. If you wanna run shoota boyz or diversified nobz, you're going to need to buy some regular boxes or ebay the bitz.

Speaking of ebay, it's a great place to pick up the elements from AoBR in whatever quantities you like. I got extra boyz and nobz to swell the ranks.

They're an awful start if you have absolutely no way of offloading the marines or are interested in starting a marine army yourself. If you can fence or use the marines, however, then yeah, AoBR is pretty good.

Considering the mini-rule book ebays for $20, and the marines should fetch at least $40, yeah, I'd say its a good buy.

I've bought 3 AoBR boxes thus far, it is that good of a deal, granted I use the marines as a backup army, and gave the rule books to friends getting into the hobby alog with templates and scatter dices, but had i wants to sell them I could have done so. also I've bought several AoBR boys packs online, jus tthe 18 ork boys with 2 big shootas

Really only if you can sell off the Marines, or go half in with someone interested in playing Marines.
Also, it's a smashing deal if you yourself want to start BOTH armies, which isn't a bad idea either.
Probably a great time to start hording the boxes since when 6th ed. releases it's new starter box in fall, we wont have access to the AoBR anymore.

Although most people say yes I will have to disagree. I bought the AoBR and play orks the only things I use from it is two deffkoptas. Ork boyz are normally more useful and efficient with shootas since they give you more flexibility. Even if you want to use slugga/chopa you can just magnetize the arms and change according to the needs. Nobz are useless unless you spend time converting them but given the price of a nobz box I don't know why you should. Warboss also gets relegated to second plan is most armies due to the need of a KFF mek.

They're cooler than the ones in the boyz box, but the Nobz from the actual Nob kit are some of the coolest models GW's ever put out. Get that box and the AoBR nobz and you can make a great unit with lots of variation and cool wargear.

superglue a small tube to the end of the slugga then either have a decorative choppa or just snip the chooppa scompletely, or just don't warry about modding htem and play them as shoota boys, they have a gun and are a gw model and again call the choppa decorative, just don't use it for the +1 attack durring combat and i've never had a oppenent have a problem with it, or anybfy in a tournament complain, mostly they are amazed to see 180 painted orks in the first place

Ork Boy Hangin' off a Trukk

in the stomp'n center of da WAAAAAAGGH!!!!

ok i'm going to have to say that the aobr set is probably the best deal that gw has come out with tbh
right now i have these aobr models:
3 warbosses (each with differnt wargear due to the extra gear in the nob box i got)
25 nobs (i have yet to use them all... but hey! nobs are nobs)
100 boyz ( with half slugga and half shoota, i just got lots of shoota bits, or used double slugga buts and boom i have 50 shoota boyz)
and the real gold nuggets of the aobr set are the deff copters. which i have 30 of (most of which are converted into warbikes)

so... you really cant go wrong when it comes to aobr. of corse i was getting them when they were 60-75 bucks and then i used bitkingdom and thewarstore to get even better deals on them!
just my 2 cents

It's good, but I find shoota boys a lot more useful than the slugga boys in the AOBR box.

Basically, the only things I like from AOBR are the copters and the warboss.

One thing to remember is that you get no options other than what is specifically on the box. If you buy a regular box of say, nobs, you get a metric ton of options to choose from and they almost anything is more useful than say a normal nob from AoBR

ya the price you pay is great for the orks, but as the SM s go, you could just sell them in person or on the Dakka Swap shop. I'm sure marines wouldnt have trouble selling

Keep in mind that you can just convert the AoBR nobz with bits from the proper kit though, and make just as useful ones that way.

The nobz box is, however, a must-buy. They are beautiful models, and give you a plethora of bitz that will last a long time. GW really out-did themselves on that box.
