With GW beginning to build up hype about Games Day over here in the UK, I have decided that I am going to save up the cash for a ticket and go.

But not only that, I am also going to commit to a plan to make a costume to go up there in also. I am not planning to enter any competitions with it, but I do want to stand out alittle and since I am a female gamer I think this will be the perfect opportunity to put my skills with a machine and exanding foam to good use.

So, today, I got to thinking. What are my ideas? What can I do in the time I have? What can I travel to GD in?

Well, I have two options currently...

One. Sisters of Battle - I see this done a lot for women, and whilst I love the sisters, I'm not sure if they are right for me. I don't want to be generic, and sisters at GD can be slightly over done.
Two. A Dark Eldar Wych. Yes, a wych. With the new models I have come to notice that they wear alot more... clothes... than they used to. They also don't have much in the way of serious costume building LARP wise and I cccan't say I've ever seen a life size Dark Eldar costume, either male or female.

So from those options, my decision has been the perhaps slightly ambitous Dark Eldar Wych but this idea could evolve into a female Archon should I have the time.

Currently, my plan is too do something like this for the body...

With either the newer style of pony tails...



Or the classic long braided hair as shown above.

So... what do you think? Good idea or terrible?

I'd say its a good idea, but you'll have to be careful what material you make all the armour bits/ weapons out of. Nothin' like setting down to play Warhammer and taking some poor kid's eye out with a stray costume bit.

I've been thinking about making the small spikes from something like packing foam so it is flexible. But with that comes the texture, and I'm pretty certain it wouldn't work out. I could make the very tips of the spike rounded instead of sharp, that way I could give the spike on the shoulder an inner foam board core and shape detail on it with either a small amount of expanding foam or maybe just some paper and PVA. Then I could give the very edge of the large spike a very round and non deadly point, but I would still need to be careful with all the spikes and the weapons. As for the weapons, I'm thinking hand carving most of it from expanding foam with a general shaped core will be the only way to go, unless I get to do the shardnet and impaler. Then I will need some net, a piece of wood or piping, and then just the detail on the end and the actual deadly end, which can all be done from expanding foam. The whip, of course, could prove difficult for me. In theory, it should be easy, but the whip is long and tapered, and obviously one long continuous shape.

I think its an amazing idea, but I've always liked a lady in tight leather suits.

I like the idea of the spiked gauntlets too, but I think weaponizing a LARP costume might be a no-no.

I won't be making a LARP costume, it will be one of my various ambitious projects that I often dream up for no apparent reason than, 'Just 'cause'. xD

I'm currently thinking the easiest and most recognisable idea would be to create the iconical two sided blade like this...



But if I was going down THAT road why not make myself a bride and go for this look... ?



Many ideas are bouncing of me currently, hopefull me and my twisted mind can pull this off.

Already have the main suit, a black pvc body suit that looks very similar to what I have in my mind. =]

Sounds like a great idea! The double-blade and a pistol would be a good combo, not too complicated and relatively easy and safe to carry around. Let us know how it goes!

I'll be updating whenever I can, as this is going to take me awhile. The stitching on the suit alone is going to be a tough slog, as I'm thinking about edging it with a metallic blue.

Found a nice reference for different types of dark eldar melee weapons. I have the codex, but its nice to have something in this topic, just so I can look through it later...



And this beauty is just a stunning piece of art, but I'll draw some inspiration from it!

Today has brought another day of thoughts and plans.

I am sitting here with my dark eldar codex, and I have come to a decision. If I can get this sorted in time, I will have a Blast pistol (or a splinter pistol) complete with holster, a punch dagger that will attach to my leg, and a spare wych dagger (as I believe that wychs would never leave the house without an extra blade, just in case).

So, with those thoughts, I'm going to get started as soon as possible. I am currently in the process of moving house, so work will be slow at first, but I'll get this done! ^_^

EDIT! In a further development, my partner (lampy is his screenname on here), has agreed to let me transform him into some kind of imperial guard for the day! Currently debating on a commissar versus a standard valhallan, but i'm excited!

Sounds cool. I think your hair-doo on the day will really help sell it. So i hope you have long hair ^^

It's just past my shoulders, but that's nothing some cheap hair extensions won't fix.

It's also worth noting that my hair is currently turquoise, BUT i am debating dying it red.

turquoise is seems more fitting to Dark Eldar imo

It certainly would! Even black would fit.
