Dominating Dominatrix

Hi guys,
I'm getting back into WARMAHORDES. After two games with my Cygnar troops I want to give Hordes another shot and I fell in love with the Gatormen. I already bought the Minion book, but sadly the most awesome looking of the 3 Warlocks is missing. I'm talking of course about the Voodoo Zombie Alligator of Death, Maelok the Dreadbound.
Before I order him from my new favourite store, I wanted to know if you guys can give me a quick rundown of what he can do. Is he more an infantry supporting Warlock? Because I prefer the Warbeats from the Blindwater Congreation and not so much the foot troops.
More advide on how to play them would also be appreciated.

Check out battle college for a general outline. BTW you can find Maelok in Dominion (the hordes equivalent of Wrath).

Domination.
I can't wrap my head around him, but battlecollege says you
can run a spammy Bull Snapper list with him and end up with
ARM 20/24 Gators. wtf.
That he can revive (he'll be able to raise one Zombie Gator
back to life per turn, provided your opponent hasn't killed off
the entire unit. And at ARM 20? Yeah, right).
You're going to want Zombie Witch Doctor.
His feat makes his army incorporeal and Undead models get
an ARM bonus. Woosh, ARM 20 gators rush past the front
lines!

Maelok wants 3 things in every list: Gatorman Posses Witch Doctors Swamptopus Posses do a lot of the heavy lifting in many Gator lists. They are arguably the best heavy infantry in either system. Maelok and Witch Doctors simply make them that much better(increasing ARM, making them Undead, and giving them Tough). In Maelok lists, Posses become almost impossible to kill(8 wound models with Tough and Khador heavy jack ARM) and when you DO kill one, Maelok just brings it back. Swamptopus gives Maelok something he desperately needs if you're going to make assassination runs with him(or any sort of combat, since he's pretty beastly): Reach. With the right positioning, they can also help clear charge lanes with their Pull ability. Remember that unlike the Drag that Cryx brings(which triggers on damage), the Swamptopus triggers it on hits, so you don't necessarily need to hurt something to move it. You could run him beast heavy if you want, but Bloody B does it much better. They're talking about spamming their Spiny Growth animus( ARM buff), not really spamming Snappers(although most Gator lists bring ~2 of them cause they're dirt cheap).

What's a Swamptopus? Do you mean the giang squid thing from Domination? For the time being I want to concentrate on the Gatormen and maybe add the other Blindwater units later.
Is the Posse really that good? Because they're my least favourite models of all the Gatormen.

Technically, the 'Locks, Posse, Witch Doctor, and Wrong Eye are the only Gatormen. The Bull Snapper, Blackhide, and Snapjaw are a separate species. Also, you'll be hindering yourself by not being open to the Spitter and Croak, there's little enough ranged in Blindwater and, other than the 'Locks, none of it is on anything Gator shaped. Yes, they're really that good. 2 Attacks(1 with Reach), High Mat, High ARM, 8 health, Amphibious, extra movement on the charge vs living models, extra ARM in melee vs Living, Fearless, and the Leader has a choice of effects(extra DEF and terror, re-roll missed attacks against Living, or Pathfinder). Also, we only have 2 units(3 if you count Calaban's Tier list) and excluding the Posse means you're relying on massed Trogs to pick up the pace. Our solos can't really solo units and of the beasts, the Swamp Horror is probably the best unit killer due to its 4 base attacks(plus 4 Fury to buy more).

Ah, I didn't realize that. I meant every alligator-ish creature.
Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll get me a box of the Posse first, I'll have to find the right colors anyway.

Are you playing competitively?
Privateer Press considers all of Minions "a faction" even if not
every model in that faction can play together.

I love my Gator army and Gatorman Posse with Maelok is really nasty since on the feat you can literary charge your posse in to a caster with out taking free strikes (unless they have a magical weapon) all you need is LOS and your golden.

Never mind. Just skipped over his entry at the Battle College. Seems okay, but nothing I need right now.
I just ordered Maelok, a Blackhide and a unit Gatormen. Should be enough to get me started. Automatically Appended Next Post: I am looking forward to the Witch Doctor though.

Me too. He's incredibly useful, I can see myself including one in most, if not all, lists.

Anung Un Rama wrote:I don't know what he does, I just like the idea. He has some useful spells and can force beasts(helpful if you need a beast to charge out of your 'Lock's range temporarily). His Spells include Dominate Undead(take over an enemy's units/models), Sacrificial Strike(Kill a friendly model and use its ARM as the POW of a magic attack), and Zombify(give a unit/model Undead and Tough).

Zombify sounds like it'll work great with my favourite new Hordes model.

I would ask AgeofEgos, seeing as he is the one of this site that plays gators fairly often.
