I just found a guy selling off his old DA army and I'm just wondering if the old versions of rhinos, land raiders and preds are still legal in modern rules. I know the rhinos are a bit smaller so I'm unsure if that would stop me playing them in tourneys? Same question with the predators and land raiders.

Thanks

PS: gotta love finding guys desperate to get rid of their collections, 2 rhinos, 2 preds, 1 l. raider all mk1 models, +1500 points of infantry for 120 cdn.

As long as they're all WYSIWYG you should be fine.

I'm not sure but I'm also curious about the old metal terminators on the 25mm bases. Are they still legal or do I have to put them on the 40mm bases first?

Still legal.

Models should be based on the base they are supplied with.

Thanks, that's great.
I've been working on a Fallen Angels army and it will look great with some pre-heresy models.

I would make an exception with regard to terminators and re-base the old ones on 40mm. Most of my Dark Eldar army is OOP. I even converted some of the old Raiders into Venoms.

Everything is legal.

You hear stories of people using old paper dreads in tournaments occasionally.

I'm pretty sure that, in either the rulebook or the Apocalypse rulebook, some guy uses old and new Tyranids in his army. So I'd say it's fine. But then again...

...I wouldn't be sure in a situation like this. As said, maybe models with different sized bases should be built with correct ones?

I would suspect it's more that you hear stories of people talkingabout using the old cardboard dread in tournies. I have yet to hear of anyone actually trying it.

Old models are legal so long as they satisfy wysiwyg, and are still a reasonable representation of what they are supposed to be. Most people for example have no problem with old rhinos as the difference really isn't that huge. Some might object to the original Eldar Avatar, who was only slighty taller than a Guardian... a lot of it comes down to the people you playing, or the tournament organiser.

As a TO, I'd be fine with old models, but I think it is fair to your opponent to have a standard sized model handy for 'size comparison' when it matters. I would re-base the Terminators, but that's just me.

Ok, so the general opinion seems to be yes, but don't use them just to be a dick (switch out models for los tests and stuff).
Thanks, I'll be running down Deathwing with Fallen in no time.

As far as termies go, putting them on 40 mm bases is to *your* advantage (mostly). It gives them a larger footprint, and therefore makes 'em more efficient at catching prey in assault.

The only real advantage of 25 mm bases is defensively when enemy templates are used against you.

Point this out to anyone giving you crap about it.

I'd rather face DW on small bases.

The larger footprint increases their chance to hit difficult terrain.

It may be a small thing, but it could change a game.

Technically speaking putting old termies on 40mm bases is illegal. I've had 1 tourney say no to my small base deathwing, and since then I've spent ~$3k at a different store.

Most of my termies are the 2nd edition ones, but not to long ago, a ton of people were butt hurt about them being on the 25mm bases. So I bought some of the 40's and rebased them, figured it wasn't a big deal, since it helped ensure they were only "partially covered" by the small blast.

Then 5th Edition came out...

Wysiwig can be a problem.

technically the old DE haemoculus(male) is illegal as he is holding a destructor not a liquifier which has the same rules but a different name...

Old DE DL, shredders and Basters look very different from their current versions to the point of confusion. I give a short run down of my models and what the old ones are as a lot of people have never seen them(perhaps thankfully as some of the old scupts are awful).

I'll probably put the termies on 40mm since I was planning in posing them on wreckage and it gives more room for creativity. I mainly play at a GW so they keep a lot on armies on hand and I could probably borrow a new version of any old model i might use in case it's an issue.

I highly doubt anyone will say a thing. And if they do... well your Canadian, just pull their shirt over their head and deliver a few uppercuts. That'll solve the issue right there.
