I'm looking into doing some armored bears as counts-as Ogryn for my Valhallans. Anyone have a good source of these? Preferably ones that would fit on 40mm bases. Thanks!

Was gonna suggest Lug from PP, but then you put in your 40mm restriction.

Just took a look at Lug - he would overlap the base a bit, but he'd fit reasonably well, I think.

The ones I'm looking at on Scibor are 23 Euros a pop, and Dreadnought-base sized. Unless there's other ones I'm not seeing, that's a bit too much money and too large for me.

I'm assuming he's on a 60mm base in that picture then? I like that mini a lot actually, but I wouldn't want a bunch of them in the same pose.

use him for the bone 'ead, and he's on a 50mm i think

i think that is also the size the scibor ones are on. and is £23 that much of a difference to the GW ones?

That ends up costing about twice what Ogryn cost from GW.

I did find one decent one from Reaper:

Shouldn't be that hard to plasticard up some armor and stick a heavy bolter on it.

He's on a 50mm base in that picture, Brother SRM - I do like the idea of using him as a squad leader, though.

Lug is on a 50mm base, but it's round lipped not straight edged like GW stuff, so Lug should almost fit a standard GW-40mm, but will peak out a bit on both sides.

Also, if it's important, that Lug model is metal not plastic or resin.

Not everyone's a fan, but Ramshackle do some too, much cheaper as well. £20 for 5.

I actually like them alright, I just don't like that they'd all have the same pose. These might be the best for my purposes/budget so far.

On a boat, Trying not to die.

As a proud owner of the Ramshackle games bears, I would suggest you don't get them for RRs.

They are supposed to fit on 60mm bases and have SM sized legs. I would convert some reaper bears, IMHO.

They're for Ogryns, not Rough Riders. I didn't see legs on the Ramshackle bears until just now though; damn.

Not sure if you can still get them - but GW had some alongside their Kislev range... It was all Direct Only - I remember getting the army book free with WD years ago

One model in particular (In work so can't link) was Tsar Boris, who rode on a giant bear... Not sure if that would be suitable...

I don't want bear riders, I want the bears to be fairly autonomous. It's kind of a Command and Conquer thing.

Ramshackle use an odd type of resin that is very difficult to cut, its also likely to fracture the model if you try.

I have 5 of their bears and they work well with Cadian torsos, the legs are more armoured than a cadian but not out of scale (Cadian minis being Space marine sized anyway!).

They are too big to really work as rough riders (I used ramshackle bikes for that), though could work as ogryns.

Thanks for the heads up on the brittle nature of Ramshackle's resin!
