a KFF Mek is in a Battlewagon with a mob of Boyz. The wagon explodes. Opponent claims the unit couldn't use the 5+ cover save the KFF grants them. I am 99% certain they get the cover save since the vehicle explosion wouldn't ignore cover for units hit outside the vehicle. Just want to make sure.

The explosion roll happens after the units Disembark, right?
If it does, than, I don't see why they wouldn't get the KFF save.

Explosions hitting passengers are explicitly declared as shooting attacks.
Cover can be used against shooting attacks.
Models embarked on the vehicle are within range of the KFF if it's embarked on the same vehicles.
Thus, you can get cover from your own vehicle exploding.

Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Pretty much this. It specifically says on the rulebook that exploding books are shooting attacks and cover can be taken as normal. As KFF is a cover save you get it

No, because the models are not in terrain when the truck explodes, they are in the truck, they take the wounds, then the are placed where the vehicle used to be.

Unless the terrain is on the trukk with them, no.
Currently, it's only possible to get a cover saves inside a vehicle by cover bubbles, like the KFF or SoS.
