Ok so here is a second poll, building off this one; http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/445466.page
I'd say the response was that there is a lot of very frequent bugging, but it is relatively harmless (this is just the majority thing, and off only a few days of poll taking, but I wanted to start this new one)
Again, this thread is born because I get to go to the Mt Gravatt store in Brisbane, and we have gun staff, and the people that I have played so far have all been really top guys, good sports, enjoyed their gaming with their opponent, not at his expense, all that jazz. So the previous poll had to do with staff by and large, and this one has to do with the clientèle more in general. It has to do with the games you get at GWs in Aus (again, not FLGS, I may start another poll to take that if people think I should, but it would be too complicated of a poll for the one thread).
Items marked with a letter (i.e. A, B, C) will measure the attitude of the majority of gamers you get to play at your local GW
Items marked with roman numerals will measure the frequency of games that you get
Items marked with a number will measure the overall experience of gaming at your local GW
Feel free to comment, funny experiences, proud experiences, all that jazz.

Newcastle has its moments, but that's when it isn't populated by screeching 14 year olds throwing dice at each other (Had to pick up wife from the Drs two doors down this week and saw that).
Overall, it hasn't been the same brilliant store in around 10 years. Now they have competition from Good Games (down opposite Spotlight in Wickham) which has lots of room, full sized gaming tables and terrain, and a friendly owner who doesn't try the hard sell, they are up against it.

I wouldn't even try to play a game in my local store (Campbelltown in NSW). They have a single table for gaming, and most of the staff are gakkers. There's one good staffer, who isn't in usually when I am in the shopping center. Just down the road theres the Hall of Heroes, which has awesome staff, about 10 sculpted tables and loads of terrain (including a ~10' long FoW table and a naval battle table), and has a kitchen that serves hot food. And coffee. And stock everything you could ever imagine. Going to GW just seems painful. The only time I make the effort is when I want a Finecast model.

I agree, Newcastle is also my local GW store. I have only played there once but playing on a proper gaming table was fantastic. I will point out that there was a guy butting in on my friendly game with a friend trying to explain every rule which was annoying, the only thing we had wrong was assault weapons don't count as close combat weapons we always though they did turns out its only pistols . He was trying also measuring thing for us to show us how to do it properly we aren't idiots. He did try to tell me "why are you only firing your battle cannon on your defiler, you can fire all its weapons its a walker" I went on to say its Ordnance so he can only fire that but he insisted I was wrong. He was so annoying that I was fuming and ready kick his face in
But over all I go there every now and again and generally its a tad crowded because its quite small but the staff are friendly and enthusiastic and most gamers are as well.

Is there a FLGS that isn't Games Workshop there to?? Is it worth going to check out ?

Yes, it is. I'm not affiliated, but I feel I must plug our newest gaming spot. If you drop in, tell Jase that Chromedog sent you.
Good Games is at 768 hunter Street (opposite Spotlight) - blue fronted building.
Full sized gaming tables in the back, of the store (behind the front display area. Jason the owner stocks some GW stuff (not paints as it wasn't worth the effort to do so - You have to stock a minimum of 6 of each pot, and you have to pay for the racks as well. Vallejo and Privateer press GAVE him FREE display setups) as well as wm/h and the usual card games and board games.
They have regular veterans gaming nights, but they are open from 12 (midday) every day except Tuesdays (when they are closed) until 10pm. Feel free to come in and use the tables (and terrain) for games with your mates. He doesn't charge to use the tables, either. It has accessible public transport (railway behind, buses across the road heading out of the city, and a block either direction for citybound.

I'm surprised that you guys say there aren't many tables. My local GW has 3 out the front (or is it 5?) and then another 9 out the back in the dedicated gaming area. It means you can game whenever you want, and all the tables are nice, clean, and have awesome terrain.
But I do get what you mean by the screaming 14 year olds. Its not so bad at mine that they are throwing dice, but it can be a bit frustrating if you go in looking for a game and there are only kids there. I don't want to play kids, I'd rather play another 20 something year old.

GW Newcastle is TINY. They have 2 4x4 tables butted together and a painting table. There simply isn't room to put more than one 6x4 in the store - the store is about 4 metres across and about 6 metres long and a fat "L" shape (as the stairwell to upstairs filing and storage takes a chunk out of it) and they still have to fit the racks and shelving in.
@Motyak: You have what is known as a "battle bunker" (even if it isn't officially one) as your local. Parramatta and Sydney CBD stores are like this. The Key stores in capital cities are like this. Most other stores have 4x4s at best.

The Parramatta store is a bit disappointing actually. I went to a couple of job interviews in Parramatta and dropped into the store on the way home, and it's pretty small. It's about the size of the Campbelltown closet, but has a similarly sized gaming room with 4 tables.
I really don't see how it would hold that many people on a busy weekend of gaming.

The Perth stores are disappointing, GW Perth moved recently into a much smaller store further off the central arcade, and only has a single table for normal games (the other table is for demo).
Morley I haven't been to, but I am told is TINY and has lots of kids there.
Fremantle - Where to start....There are quite a few kids, though it moved awhile ago from a larger store, and so less than usual now. Terrain is ROB and premades, so Sector Imperialis etc. There are 3 tables, plus painting tables. Quite hard to get an honest game going on any given day, though the staff always try hard. We had only one guy at the LOTR open day recently, and only 4 at the WFB tournament.

The GW store at Hurstville is just plain bloody awful. The guys at the counter won't give you time of day, not even a hello when you walk in, let alone try and get something done.
They used to have this really good bloke, though, large man with stubble. Willing to take to you rather than talk at you, friendly, laughable chap.
Pity they lost him.

GW Hornsby is my local. It's a decent size with 3 tables set up for gaming with 2 display boards. The staff there really know their stuff.
The one at Chatswood is good, but I liked it better when it was in the shopping centre though, now it's in a place the size of a broom closet.
When I was in Perth on a business trip, I missed out on seeing the Perth store as it was the weekend they were moving. I walked past the new location and place looked tiny.

The new Manager Tim Hyland has completely turned the Store around. Ever since that Corpsegod-forsaken Manager Justin left the store, the store actually improved. The Store now has a good Painting Contest, 2 Tournaments a month now(Doubles and Singles). Most of the guys there are nice but there are some annoying kids and some TFG in the stores. Overall, it has improved a lot.

GW Miranda (Sydney) has another game store for a close neighbour (the newest Good Games FLGS moved in above them).
That's one way to keep the opposition close. Guess they couldn't affort the Westfield rents, either (or chose not to).

Yep. Good Games Miranda was supposed to open a few weeks back. Their site still lists them as "proposed". GW Miranda moved to Kingsway early last year.

The good games above Miranda has been open a few weeks now although it isn't selling any GW products (I don't know if that's the normal for a Good Games Store).
They stock Hordes and Warmachine though, should be interesting to see if people around the area start to pick it up as a cheaper alternative. I've been in there twice now and its mainly people playing Magic the Gathering and other card games which I know little about.

If they're where they said they were opening, it wouldn't surprise me as a decision (right above GW).
The local one stocks a bare minimum of GW plastic boxes (no paints, glues or other modelling stuff from GW) and is mainly a PP and "other" stockist.

They'll probably stock the Vallejo or P3 range (and/or Army Painter). These seem to be the common alternates.

Yes they are directly above the GW store there. Up a staircase to the right of the arcade way.
I only glanced at the paints there Groundh0g but it was only a small stand of P3 I think, no other ranges. The other hobby shop (Vags) down the road has a good selection of Tamiya paints and other acrylic ranges. Mostly for cars and model trains but there are some interesting colors there. I picked up a cool metallic blue there than I'm using to start an Ultramarine army for the new Space Marine codex with 6th edition.

Since Hornsby is your local, you might like to know that it is closing.
From a regular haunter of the store on wargamerau:
"Not sure if any of you guys have heard, but since some of you frequent the store on occasion thought i'd let you know. The Hornsby Games Workshop store will be closing on the 6th of July, with a goodbye party on the saturday before (30th June)"
