Hi Dakka. I was looking at the Anphelion Project, and the other Imperial Armour books about Elysians, and I got interested in starting a Converted Elysian army. I sold some of my 40k stuff, and may look into starting this project. Does anyone else play Elysians, and have any advice about conversions? Thanks!

The list in the Anphelion Project is now outdated. The current general Elysian list is in IA 8 - Raid on Kastorel Novem, and the special D-99 unit in Anphelion Project is here. It uses the IA 8 list as a starting point and changes choices around a bit.

Now that you've got plastic Valkyries, it should be a simple matter to come up with Elysians to load into them. The way I see it, you've got three options:
1) Pay Forge World for official Elysian conversion packs to hack on Cadian miniatures with. The lazy route, more expensive.
2) Sculpt oxygen masks and grav-chutes onto Cadians. Doable, if difficult, this route'd be ideal if you've got some skill with Green Stuff.
3) Find a different source of miniatures on which to base simpler conversions. I'd start by looking at GW Kasrkins since the aesthetic is still pretty close there, but I wouldn't know where to look further afield.
Also remember that Thunderbolts, Lightnings, Vultures, and the like replace tanks in the Elysians list; be sure to remember to get some of those.

Actually, Valkyries aren't that great when everything falls from the sky. As an Elysian Player, I've converted most of my Valkyries into Vultures using the various bits you get in the Valkyrie sprue (the Multiple Rocket Pods and Such). The Twin-Linked Punisher Cannon is a bit trickier, because you might need a friend to borrow those unused Punisher Barrels from the Leman Russ Range.
*Be Forewarned* Converting Valkyries into Vultures makes them look kind of... Odd, due to the excess space in the Valkyries Hull. But if you jury rig it too look likes its carrying ammunition and rockets (Like the Huey's did during the Vietnam War) its not as bad...
Here's my advice for converting into the Elysian Cadre:
1) I personally find the Elysian models to be god forsakenly ugly, so I've refrained from buying the actual models.
2) Purchasing the Grav Chutes isn't a bad thing. In fact, its the cheapest way to do things. Just paint your Cadian Models as normal and, as you buy your Chutes, just paint them and glue them afterwards (Harkoni Warhawks are the best!)
3) I use the Heavy Bolters from the Valkyrie sprue for my Drop Sentinels. The fit quasi-perfectly and just require a simple magnet to be attatched. The Multi-Meltas are a bit harder to find, but converting a few from the Assault on Black Reach dreadnought isn't a bad way to go.
Unfortunately, I would invest in the Tauros Venator Scout Vehicles. Converting them from third part sources can be a superior pain in the ass than simply buying the resin kit and putting it together.
*And Remember* You can't use Lightnings or Interceptors in a regular 40K game...

A good substitute for Elysians if you don't want to spend a ton of money on Forgeworld would be the Mantic Corporation models. The only downside is that you won't be able to use them at an official GW venue, otherwise you're all good.
Kind Regards,

Mantic corporation? Seems like good models. I will most likely just be converting my Elysians from GW kits.

You could probably use some of the multi meltas you get for sponsons on leman russ tanks. Each tank comes with two, and almost no one uses them. They'd take some fiddling as they only have the front half of the weapon, but I'm sure you could take a weapon you never use and meld it to the melta cannon to make it larger to fit on the sentinels.

1) Don't blob your infantry squads if they're deep striking. That ends very, very badly in alot of situations.
2) Regimental Standards are iffy. If you take Homing Beacons, I wouldn't invest in them, since Iron Discipline is built into each infantry unit.
3) You can take Drop-Sentinels as Troops. Very Important. I usually give them Heavy Bolters for some anti-infantry umph.
4) The Melta and Flamer are going to be your Infantry workhorses, and you can only take one special weapon per command squad, so special weapons teams will become pretty decent and you can take three of them.
5) Mortars are surprisingly effective when dropped from the sky.
6) You're not going to have much by means of variety. If you want something a little hard to master, take a couple Tauros squadrons with a Homing Beacon in each squad.
7) Vultures are phenominal. Slapping on four multiple rocket pods makes it have all defensive weapons, but it comes at a price; 175 points...

Infnatry squads give you alot of bodies. And usually giving your opponent too many individual squads to shoot at is a plus. Plus you can deep strike each squad individually and at specific targets AND an entire platoon counts as one Troop Choice, so one dice roll for reserves for essentially an entire army's worth of infantry.
You can also take 0-3 Special Weapons Squads and 0-4 Heavy Weapons, and its only when you take a platoon can you take Drop Sentinels for the platoon as well, thus making them scoring units.
Veterans are kind of hit and miss in that, while you may get BS4, you have a squad of ten that takes up a Troops Slot. They're good in Valkyries, but I wouldn't deep strike them, too few in number.

Thanks for the tips and tricks. I was considering a mix of Heavy Bolter, and Lascannon Sentinels.
