Hey guys, starting Imperial guard. I wanted to have a list thats competitive yet still fluffy and fun list. This is a list that will be able to soak up so much damage and still over run most enemy's. It will swarm small elite forces, blast swarms, pin Tau, And hopefully be able to shoot down CQB forces before they get into assault. Its going to be a classic hammer of the emporer list. Any ways, here it is. Suggestions are welcome.

Sorry what units should I blob? Also I am trying to stay away from power weapons and other CQB upgrades. In my opinion it is a waste of points on guard when you will probably be safer if the enemy is dead before they can chop you to little bits. IMHO

That would be true if your list had good firepower. It currently doesn't, unfortunately.
Firstly, the MoO and mortars are not good choices. The MoO rarely hits, and mortars are just not good, particularly on a BS4 model. Your CCS is far better off with either a lascannon, or 4x special weapons, namely plasma or melta.
The PCS has no need for a commissar, and that commissar should be moved to one of the infantry squads so you can combine them for stubborn Ld9. Give the PCS either a heavy weapon (lascannon or autocannon, the only good choices) or 4x special weapons (melta, plasma, or flamers).
Your infantry squads should be combined into a 20-man squad at minimum, and have the same special weapons. If you're going for a heavy weapon, sit and shoot style, give them las or autocannons too.
Your heavy weapon squads should be either 3x lascannons or 3x autocannons for 105 and 75pts respectively. Mortars are again, just not good for anything.
Special weapon squads aren't useful in a foot list, but if you want, run them with 3x melta and maybe a demo charge.
Finally, lose the stubbers and HKMs on the basilisks. Furthemore, Manticores are overall a better artillery piece, but your call.
*Edit* I almost forgot. Your list would benefit greatly by putting power weapons on your commissars and sergeants on your 20-man blobs. You'd also benefit by having an extra infantry squad in each platoon, to make 2x 30-man blobs armed with power weapons. Its a great unit that is both resilient, and will deal damage back with sheer number of attacks.

going to bed now, will post new army list in morning. /\/\/\/\ very helpful suggestions. But are mortars really that gakky? The games I will be playing will be in dense terrain (jungle/urban) and the most competitive list I will be playing will be against Tau. The list only weakness is leadership. Having units pinned would really be helpful. But if you really think that they are useless then I will drop them for HB or AC. Also I will drop the MoO and Mortar in CC. Probably stick in 4x meltas because I love meltas. For Basilisk I want them to have some sort of way to defend them selves and the 3x HKM could do some real damage to the two ork armys I will be playing, both of which rely on trukks and/or battlewagons. Revision will be up tomorrow.

3x plasma and a medipack in the company CS. Some will say just go with 4x plasma because the medipack isn't worth it in the end, but mathhammer or not, I like having the medipack there to keep my high BS plasma gunners from vaporizing themselves.
Put a commissar in each platoon, attached to one of the squads in each, so when the two platoons blob up, each blob has a commissar attached.
Give the commissars and the squad sergeants power weapons, they'll be hidden in the blob and can take a toll on close combat opponents. With Ld 10 and Stubborn, your blobs won't run.
Also switch the special weapons around in the platoons, so one has 2 squads with flamers, and one has 2 squads with meltas. I would sprinkle a few heavy bolters or autocannons in the blob squads too, just so they can reach out and hit things a little more effectively.
I also recommend changing up the platoon command squads a little. I like running 1 with a few flamers and a heavy flamer, and the other with plasma and a lascannon. One is for stopping an enemy charge with tons of flame, the other takes potshots at transports. You can do whatever you like here, I think there's lots of flexibility in PCS's, just have a clear idea of how you want to use your platoons.

I like when people quote me. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
For antheyshallknownofear, I could write you a list based off my points, but I dislike writing other people their lists as it feels like I'm telling you what to take. Take a good, long read through everything I said, then go find as many foot guard lists on here that received positive feedback or good advice, then craft the single greatest foot list ever.
When you have BS4 models, give them plasma or melta.
The only heavy weapons that exist are autocannons or lascannons. Nothing else exists, say it with me. There are only autocannons and lascannons in my armoury.
The only special weapons that exist are flamers, meltaguns, and plasma guns. There is an argument for GL/AC combo, which is cheap and effective, but outside of that particular combination, there are only flamers, melta, and plasma.

Alright here we go. Don't get me wrong I am very grateful for all the help. I was just very fond of those mortars. It brings a tear to my eye to see them go  . Each platoon would be a blob (except for heavy weapons, which would just go off and do there own thing). I stuck in tonnes of auto-cannons but feel that my force has lost its anti horde ability. The CC would probably just chill with one of the blobs, pushing center. Thanks for the help all, any tweaks still much wanted. I only just started this army so I can teak whatever.

you cant have 4x specials with a medi pack, 4 veterans in the ccs so 3x PG and one medi pack.
your basilisks are still the wrong point value, 1=125 so 3 is 375 not 345.
blobs can be very good against smaller units(not a horde of boys or nobz etc) in close combat with the 2xPW and commissars holding them in place. move the commissars and PWs out of the PCS and add them to the IS. blob up 20 or more guys and you have a very resilient group that can take a beating holding obj or pushing up the field. i have priests with mine to help when i get the charge cuz my PWs never seem to hit.
trust me when i say this, mortars are not good to use. i held out with mine as long as i could just because i love mortars being that i was in the infantry and those things are far better in real life than the game depicts. i ended up converting them to ML in the end and they are far more usefull.

You're having maths trouble. 3 basilisks with no upgrades is 375 and you were already advised of that ealrier in the thread.
A lascannon HWS is 105 pts. An autocannon HWS is 75 pts.
A PCS with commissar and 2 power weapons is 85. Not that you'd run this because everyone here has told you to put the commissar in the infantry squad instead!
The CCS has incorrect load out, incorrect points cost and you've illegally tried to put a free commissar in there.
Get a calculator and/or codex and try again me thinks ...

Hi! I am a fan of foot slogging guard and if you really want to go down that route then a few loadouts for your CCS could be:
CCS with 4 sniper rifles or plasma guns and MoO (I know he is not very popular an upgrade) but we are talking about a 30 point earthshaker round that as long as you deploy him in LOS to the enemy then he may not scatter too much. In the few games I played he has given back his worth or more in points, he even took out a razorback. Give it a try as one needs to play as many games as possible and tweak the list if need be after but as you have three basilisks then maybe the Officer of the Fleet is a worty upgrade to deal with outflankers?
For me, a foot slogging list should have 2 CCS with special weapons and advisors ( MoO and Officer of the Fleet if you can or want) and they bog down with two platoons armed with AC+ Gl and LC+ PG combo's and one power blob (operation human shield) with a couple of basilisk's. For me I have less heavy weapons but potentially more survivability as 30 man blobs protect the heavy weapons nicely. Just be careful with deepstriking dreadnoughts and the like and don't underestimate the power of massed lasgun fire.....

Check this out for a few foot sloggers which I've personally had success with. Read the helpful comments from Spankhammer, evilbishop and Nocturn as well. Spankhammer is less than convinced about this kind of list, but he makes a lot of good points. Nocturn's suggestion is also very on the nose for the list I'm running specifically, but considering how Al'Rahem and his two platoons got me 5 KP in 2 rounds against an enemy I otherwise would have had no chance against, I couldn't recommend him more. evilbishop also explains the single reason why you would ever take mortars, even though I still don't think it's a good choice. Even though my list is exactly the type where they would give an advantage. (evilbishop didn't recommend the mortars to me. He just cleared up a question I had. Just wanted to make it clear that he didn't recommend mortars to me.)

You know what, I'll do one better; I'll show what some good blobs look like. Then tweak them as necessary, and fill in the support units you need/want.
My favorite power blob, derived from Ailaros' battle reports;
Platoon Command Squad - 4x special weapon (doesn't really matter, let's say 4x flamer)
Infantry Squad - Melta gun, Power Sword, Commissar w/ power sword, melta bombs
Infantry Squad - Melta gun, Melta bombs, Power sword
Infantry Squad - Melta gun, Power sword
Alternatively, can work as a 20-man blob on the cheap. Melta can be replaced by flamers, or plasma if you're feeling risky/fancy.
The static blob;
Platoon Command Squad - 4x special weapons OR 1x heavy weapon (auto/lascannon ONLY!)
Infantry Squad - Melta gun, lascannon, power sword, commissar with power sword
Infantry Squad - Melta gun, lascannon, power sword
Infantry Squad - Melta gun, lascannon, power sword
This work equally well as Grenade Launcher/Autocannon, or Plas/Las, or Melta/Auto, or really any combination as long the special weapon is a flamer, plasma, or melta and the heavy is autocannon or lascannon.
The theory being that your blobs are equally threatening at long range and short range, and still present a prickly proposition to assault.
Use these 30-man (or 20-man) blobs as building blocks, and add in support when you have a strong number. I normally run 30 per 500pts in my foot list, but its your call.

Hey, sorry about not replying for so long. Those blobs look effective but extremely expensive. I want to try and avoid CQB as much as possible and maybe have one dedicated squad that will try to counter assault/assault. I'lll probably in general be gun lineing, preferably with 20 man blobs. There would be flamer blobs and melta blobs. IMHO melta's are the best anti tank weapon in the game if used right. Also I dont want to keep heavy weapons in infantry squads. Reason is that I think that if I have enough blobs (hopefull six of them, each with twenty men) then they will protect the HW. The strategy would be advance, fire, pull back, fire. That way I use the Blobs superior numbers to whittle down the enemy with the help of the HW. Can't right up my revised list right now but this is what it will look like.
-Change mortars for AC and maybe HB? Definatly AC but what do you guys think about the HB
-Keep lascannons
-Three infantry platoons instead of two
-drop special weapons squads
-give two platoon commands commisar and power weapons and make two 25 man assault blobs.
-give CCS and Platoon Command Special weapons and medi packs (not sure on plasma guns or melta's yet) and stick them in respective platoons.
-Just have straight up Basilisks, no upgrades.
I think that sums up about everything. If any one wants to post a list that they think would work then feel free. I do want to keep the list fun to play but still competetive. This will be for a campaign so when in doubt go for fun over competitive. But I may do a tourny this summer so we will see. Thanks for all the help so far.
PS lol just noticed that my thing say's I'm from the states. I'm on vacation here so thats kinda cool. Any ways...

I don't think you can combine the platoon command squad with the actual infantry squads. Infantry squads can join together, but I don't think that extends to the PCS.

The list is slowly getting better. The biggest thing I see is that you should take the power weapons and commissars out of the PCSs and put them in the infantry squads. Same weapons, but many, many more abblative wounds to wrap them in.
Also, a CCS can't take a commissar, and the medic is rather a waste. Drop those out and you can get even more guns.

Ill take your word on it as I dont have the codex with me right now. Also I am new to guard. I think I will there fore make the PCS heavy weapon platforms in support of blobs and CCS special weapon spam.

I will do as you say, so that I will have around two CQB blobs and four gun line blobs (aproximatly, as I said can't make list do to a severe lack of codex). I will drop the medic kit I think. If I take melta's I definatly will but wont it be usefull if I take plasma? Your call. And I was thinking for the PCS I would make them heavy weapons platforms with LC or AC.
