Hello , I just ordered 2 razorbacks and a pred. Now i dont know exactly how to arm them.
My army is pretty balanced, I have 3 mls and a Lc in total. Plus a dev squad 2 mls 2 pcs.
Now onto the vehicles, I could arm my razors TL Lcs and tri lc on the pred for that anti tank punch OR All HBs with the auto cannon. Roughly a 100 point diffrence. Suggestions? PS I cant magnetize them as they dont sell pinning drills, greenstuff and magnets

First off, miniwargaming.com has an excellent store where all of those things can be found. I'd suggest you check them out.

Secondly, I can attest to the fact that the main advantage of the Predator lies in it's potential for versatility. Outfitting it with the Heavy Bolters and the Autocannon, or all Las Cannons, can be tempting, and wise in some situations, but an Autocannon and LC sponson Pred is more than capable of handling a wide range of targets effectively. I'd wait for a second opinion, but seriously consider it.

Good luck, whatever you choose.

What do you face? Will you need more anti-tank weapons or will you be facing horde armies? The pred with the auto/las is a good choice but as for the razorbacks it is a toss up. TL asscans are nice, TL PG/LC is a nice combo too.

I used Razorbacks, but, im switching over to rhinos, due to the fact that they can actually carry my entire squad when moving around. Razorbacks are nice if you play on objective missions, but, if you play anything you want a full 10man squad for, they are AV11 75pt heavy weapons. :(

A razorback with a twin linked lascannon that sits in cover can perform just as well as a predator that isn't in cover.

I would suggest putting either a lascannon on your predator, and then hiding your razorbacks behind it, since they can shoot over your predator.

I'm not saying its a bad pred, its my favorite pred, but it doesn't have a wide range of effective targets...

Preds with either just an autocannon or with heavy bolters too if you have the points. Razors with las-plas or assault cannons imho.

AV 10-12 is going to be the bulk of any mech spam list.

You probably should take 1/2 and as stated before, make them versatile.

I wouldn't advise going for versatility on one unit since the Predator's guns are designed to shoot at different things, you'll be wasting part of your firepower every turn if you do go for some lascannons and some not lascannons. I'd advise making one of the two all-lascannon and the other no-lascannon.

Also, you'll find if you switch out the two plasma cannons into Tactical Squads and bring the missile launchers into the Devastator Squad, you will not only have the exact same amount of firepower, but your opponent will have more scary targets to shoot at, your plasma cannons will be more free to engage a broader range of targets, and your army will be 10pts cheaper. Don't ask me why GW did the math that way, it doesn't make sense to me either, but that's how the list works.

Wow It's really tempting to go all lascannons at this point. I have seen a 2000 point game that included a stormraven.
Although, the predator's autocannon/HBs are great for 85 points(95 with storm bolter).

I'm either going auto cannon pred, and the razorbacks all lascannons or the other way around.
Auto cannon can really punch any AV 10-12 as stated above.... and use the HBs to finish of any survivors of a rhino/razorback.

If I go tri-las pred. The razorbacks pose a "less threat" and my pred would be the biggest target then =(.

Although I am also considering mixing up my predator. Auto cannon double lascannons? or TL lascannon with HBs. More like a transport killer if i go there.

Well im glad you read the bit above where the guy said that autolas are good against a WIDE range of targets
Like i said- its my fav pred loadout. Because AV10-12 is common. But it ain't got a wide band of effective targets

I'm just going auto/las pred since triple lcs are a HUGE overkill against most armies. Cheap and effective. And the autocannon also is like a TL weapon. Miss one you always have the other one.

Use what you like, but if I were you, I'd magnetize everything, just in case you change your mind. Also helps if you get a weapon shot off, you can take it off, instead of having to remember, and getting into arguments weather it was this gun/that gun. Seen that happen. It's never fun.

As Dracos recently noted to me, a auto-las predetor is like a 4x missile dev squad. The devs get 4 S8 attacks, while the preds get 2 S7's and 2 S9's. Understandably, they're good against whatever you're bringing missile launchers for, which yeah, is probably to stop mech spam. I'd also note that their role is slightly wider than that. An auto-las pred is also decent against monstrous creatures, and I've taken down termies before with hull lascannon exterminators (the guard equivalent). Having both some volume of fire, and some AP2 is nice.

Of course, both of these roles would be replaced with a turret assault cannon...

... goes off grumbling about blood angels...

Oh, also, razorbacks can get cover, but so can a predator. It's unfair to compare a razor in cover to a pred out. No wait, actually, it is - a razorback NEEDS cover to get a certain amount of durability that a predator doesn't need terrain in order to recieve. Like termies, preds are unencumbered by the need to hide in terrain (or, in the case of a parking lot, stay in strict formation). Plus, you can always park a pred in cover and have a durability the kind that a razorback can never have.

The problem with Predators is that they can't fire all of their weapons if they need to go on the move, and, unless your enemy is happy to walk into your line of fire...

I suppose that's the same for almost all of a Vanilla Marines choices. It just feels like a waste of 80 - 120 pts (depending on how many Predators you have) if you are having to move around.

Space Marines need PotMS back, so they can still fire if they are shaken or move, like the previous codex. Make it cost something around Daemonic Possession.

While that would be very nice, we gotta work with what we have. :/

On that note, you could take a Land Raider. They have PotMS standard, if I recall. I would be cautious, though. They're very expensive, and I'd only include one in an army if it was filling a very specific purpose.

Unless you're running three of them. Because that's just AWESOME.

I only run them when I feel like having a few lulz and running a Land Raider with Assault Termies + Libby with Vindicators for support.
