Wondering Why the Emperor Left

Things I want to see more of:

High Imperial society, Inquisitors, Terran nobles, Chapter leaders and how they interact with each other.

The Human side of Chaos, hoping to see more about the mortl followers of the dark gods and maybe chaos held cities that produce mortal armies and fleets of their own.

Naval engagements.

Things I can't stand:

The inner workings of Space Marine chapters, i'm getting bored hearing about how eunich theocratic superhumans spend their time. To be honest the space marines can just be a little too perfect, I like my heroes have vices.

The perspectives of lowlely servants of the Imperium such as guardsmen, its just too depressing.

Deranged hyper masculine Chaos Space Marines who just like their counterparts are eunich theocratic superhumans.

+ More on the less featured SM chapters, like the White Scars, would be nice
+ Eldar Rangers -- their way of life, culture, approach to combat would be interesting to see fleshed out more
+ Same for Tau

- Newcrons...in general
- Renegades and heretics having silly, almost childish attitudes and reasons for betrayal
- Less instances of otherwise formidable foes being used as 'level up' opportunities for hero characters

Like to see more of (or actually see)

The forces of Chaos are highly competant and a major threat (especially Abaddon)

Imperial forces (especially Guard officers) fighting with honor (less of cannon fodder guard tactics)

Ya and lets add more interaction between the different Imperial groups, IG and SM, SM and SM, Inquistion and anyone, etc...

Oh and kind of a lose 4th, a minorly darker Tau

I hate seeing (not already loselly mentioned aboved)
The pants on head stupidty of the Imperium and technology (we dont know how to make fething anything)

The "ill do anything it takes including sacrificing millions of soldiers and my own mother to become the best" attitude of so many commanders.

and Inquisitors are always bad, either because they are working for Chaos or they are just bad people (similiar above attidute)

At least thats what I can think of now

More ;

Of the good side of the Imperium. And pretty much from all it's sub-factions (except maybe the IH and clearly evil ones...). I want to relate at least a bit. It's hard to relate to pseudo-Nazi in Spaaaace...
Of the Eldar. Not too much, but still a bit...
Of intra-mankind politics. And not just the Heresy trope...

Less ;

Conspiracy theories about the Emprah. No more Star Child silliness.
Psykers being overly linked to Chaos.
Focus on Traitor Legion.

+ multiple chapter interactions

+More xenos
+More xenos vs xenos and xenos vs chaos
+More of the Tyranids being portrayed as *the* ultimate threat with the fluff to back it. Chaos is simple corruption and is too tied to humanity. The Tyranids are outright annhialation for all the other factions.

-Less imperials
-Less Chaos showing up in other media fighting Imperials
-Less Matt Ward in general.

Additionally to those fx:

+ less incompetence
+ growing a sense of scale
+ more sci in the fi than "magic" and "fantasy"

- pointless use of "decisive world wide campaigns" like the EoT one
- creating super threats who are moar super then the other threats before, same with super heroes who are obviously moar super than anything ever...
- no right to write about 40k without a competent editor for certain employees of GW and its subcompanies and anyone having a license.

Onuris Coreworld

More:
Necron books where they are accurately represented(in other words, where they arent just fodder for bolter porn...I'm looking at you Hammer and Anvil).
More books likes Path of the Warrior/Seer/Outcast. Just books from the perspective of the xenos. A Tau or possibly even Necron one would be awesome.
A campaign, hosted by GW where what the players do actually affects the story. Kinda like 13th black crusade campaign.
A more in depth naval combat game, like an updated Battlefleet Gothic

Less:
Space Marines beating down opponents just for the sake of "hey, I beat this guy so you know I'm the gak". Poor Avatar of Khaine, he has been on the receiving end of this way to much. In other words, using big xenos/chaos things as a steping stone for space marine characters
I would very much like to see less of the tabletop game itself being based so much on luck. Example, an IG veteran squad is 2' away from a monolith but still needs 3+ to hit?....come on....
Less Matt Ward(Dolmen Gates?!, Draigo beats Mortarion?!, Necron Blood Angels alliance?!)

-Ridiculous changes in canon(see Gray Knights or 'crons)then again, that is a derivative of Matt Ward

Inboud...

More:
Focus on the Intricacies of High Imperial Society- factions, politics, betrayal and its consequences.
Sinister and effective cults- the Cognitae spring to mind.
The Imperium, despite its best efforts, losing. However there needs to be some emotion attached to this losing. Death of a world? Meh. Death of a Battlefleet, which leaves an Agri-world alone and defenceless, with the protaganists family/love/whatever stranded, subject to whatever unimaginable horror is assailing them? Brilliant

Less:
Space Marine Chapters overcoming the odds without breaking a sweat.
Incomprehensible alliances: Humans and Tau declaring a ceasefire, to take out Tyranids I can (just) comprehend. Blood angels and Necrons though? Really?
Orks being manipulated left, right and centre. It seems that a race that presented a viable threat to Humanity now cannot attack anything without Eldar/Chaos/ whatever manipulating them into doing so.

+ Life for the normal man on the street
+ Imperial Guard regiments as varied as SM chapters, with their own rules

- Space Marine chapters being essentially heretical. Space Marine chapters numbering 1000 beating millions of foes when that doesn't match the game.
- Matt Ward

Stuff I want to see more of:
Pragmatic Tau: I don't want them to kill everyone, but I want to see how they react to psykers and potential rebellion, perhaps becoming a tiny bit more grimdark if only for pragmatic reasons. Mainly I feel that the greater good and whatnot is too... bright for the setting.
More focus on Chaos: In earlier editions it felt like Chaos was a minor threat, sure they launched black crusades, but the Tyranids and Oldcrons were always more threatening. So yeah a nerf to Tyranids and boost to Chaos fluffwise (emphasis on fluffwise).
More focus on non-human societies: I would really like to see more information on how the Eldar and Dark Eldar and Tau, and even Newcrons live in their day to day lives.

Stuff I want to see less of:
Grimdarkness for the sake of grimdarkness: I sort of like the overall doomed feeling, but a lot of the time it seems like the setting is trying too hard to be depressing to the point where it gets stupid or simply funny because it is trying too hard.
Chaos fails to do anything, again: I want chaos and all of the other "bad guys" to actually succeed from time to time and have it effect the setting. I don't mean the Ultramarines are eaten by Tyranids, or Cadia falls, but something that makes it seem like Chaos and co. actually win meaningful battles. It makes the whole grimdark setting seem dumb when all of the bad guys either lose or only win unimportant battles.
Less Space Marines, Space Marines, Space Marines: I like space marines, I think they are cool, but I don't like hearing about them all the time.

I disagree with nerfing the Tyranids or focusing EVEN MORE on Chaos as antagonists. Chaos stars as the main antagonists in too many works (Dawn of War, Gaunt's Ghosts, Ciaphas Cain, Space Marine, Ultramarines, Black Crusades, Badab War, and more.) Chaos vs Imperials has been done so much that I can pretty much tell you how any battle against chaos will go. That and Chaos doesn't really give two gaks about anyone other than the Imperium as a whole, except for maybe the Eldar. This makes them rather bad as setting wide antagonists as they only diametrically oppose one. The Tyranids have always attacked everyone equally (proportionally anyway), Chaos doesn't care about the Xenos factions outside of how they can use them to hurt the Imperium, to the Tyranids, they're all just as much food or things getting in the way of food.

I don't mean make them the antagonist in more works, just make them seem more threatening. Before the new necron codex it seemed stupid that the Imperium bothered about chaos when they had to deal with the seemingly unstoppable necrons and tyranids. I would like seeing Tyranids and Necrons as antagonists more in fiction, I simply want Chaos to seem more threatening to the galaxy as a whole.

Want:
ultramarines defeated somehow, not wiped out but put in their place preferibly by chaos marines.

I'd be interested in a story from the perspective of a non-astartes chaos pirate preying on the imperium.

The despoilers inner court, or stuff dealing with the lords of terra, stuff dealing with top people on both sides.

Wars with classic xenos: orks, eldar.

Get rid of:

Virtuous portrayals of the Eldar

the Tau in any capacity except as tyrannid fodder.

Necrons
