I want more:
1. Tau fluff, and different races within Tau. Maybe if Games Workshop focused on them more maybe people would stop hating on them so much.
2. Sisters of Battle
3. Naval Space Battles

I want less:
1. This Mary Sue thing with many of the space marines. I.E. Marneus Calgar, Kaldor Draigo, Mephiston.
2. Less emphasis on chaos being the ultra boogieman.
3. Less emphasis on Imperial Guard being cannon fodder.

Well, from the rumors, Tau may well play a more important role in the future. Less emphasis on Chaos? Really? They haven't been a serious threat in the 41st millennium for some time. You're going to be disappointed, I think, since every indication is that Chaos will again be the Big Bad in 6th edition.

There was a big bad in 5th? I thought it was just the Imperium ROFLstomping everyone else.

The "big bad" as of the 5th edition were probably the Tyranids and Necrons. Necrons have been downgraded immensley and de-villified thanks to Ward, so that just leaves the Tyranids who just seem to lose everything....

Yeah, the Tyranids, like Chaos, were trumpeted up as a big threat but in reality did nothing but get slaughtered in every codex they showed up in increasingly embarrassing ways, rather like the Eldar. Xenos and Chaos get no frakking respect.

You people do realise that other people than Ward on GW give the Codex a look before it ships right?

Right?

As for me:

+ New xeno species.
Not some crappy tentacled psychic ass stain but vaguely humanoid yet alien lifeforms with their own culture and sheet.

+ Civillian life. I know from codexes and BL alike that the majority of the Imperium's world's are in fact, not war ravaged. Care to show us some?

+ New IG and SM regiments/chapters. Forge World's Baddab war and the upcoming Only War from FFG are steps in the right direction.

- GRIMDERP. Yes, this is a dark, over the top setting but keep a sliver of realism alive if possible. Yes, I know that this is a universe with Space Elves and chainswords but still. I read the Imperial guardsman's uplifting primer awhile back. Is there something I CAN do without getting shot, comm-BLAM! Grimdark=/=Stupid.

- Taking real world armies for the IG for "inspiration" and then making no real changes other than giving them lasguns. wut?

- Bolter Bitches. No further information needed

So how exactly did his 'adjust' on LR troop capacity slip by all these proofreaders He 'got his hands slapped' for that one after the fact.

For that matter how did his godawful fluff ever make it past an editor ?

I get the feeling that quality control on the codexes (for consistency and balance) is handled by the writer, until it hits the shelves. Then it's further complicated by nonsensical FAQ's There have been more than a few cases (ork dex for example) where the page numbers and statlines don't match up between the unit description pages and the army list section, and any competent proofreader would have caught that too.

I proofread legal documents as part of my job. It's not hard.

+more of the races left out i.e. Tau, Dark Eldar, and Orks
+more depression its called the grim dark future for a reason
+more vice, sin as in prev. its an evil place noone is by anymeans pure.

-Less mixing of chapters i.e. "My army is what would happen if the Blood angles had an orgy with the Salamanders" or SM in general
-Less hope ok I can see using in the beggining but crush it at the end because you dont fight one battle and it over no you do it over and over again.
-Less Planets what I mean by this is I have seen a few where people you go in depth about a planet that dosent exist like Oh my guys are from ThatOnePlanet in the Ultramar system when they have seen a map of that seystem and its not there!!!

More rules for different clans/ regiments/ craftworlds .etc. to add a bit more character, more xenos and more heroes that have abilities to help command and buff troops nearby (like Creed, or Harker), not just killing troops.

Less mechanised infantry (just a bit, just now it can become Methul-Bawksehammer with people rushing to objectives in all those vehicles), less units that have lots of special rules that deviate from the USR (some are fine, but too many make you wonder the point of USRs) and less outdated models (Catachans and Sororitas come to mind).

More;
- Elysians
- Xenos alliances (Maybe Tau and IG fight CSM? or necrons?)
- IG models (I mean, Catachans look just plain silly)
Less;
- SM, we get the picture, they always win and always save the day.
- Hyping of factions (Niyds, Necrons, etc.) then nerfing them in the codex's.
- IG incompetence

High Imperial society, Inquisitors, Terran nobles, Chapter leaders and how they interact with each other.

The Human side of Chaos, hoping to see more about the mortl followers of the dark gods and maybe chaos held cities that produce mortal armies and fleets of their own.

Naval engagements.

Things I can't stand:

The inner workings of Space Marine chapters, i'm getting bored hearing about how eunich theocratic superhumans spend their time. To be honest the space marines can just be a little too perfect, I like my heroes have vices.

The perspectives of lowlely servants of the Imperium such as guardsmen, its just too depressing.

Deranged hyper masculine Chaos Space Marines who just like their counterparts are eunich theocratic superhumans.

Tired of no mentions of any types of relationships. Get real its human nature.
Tired of how the emperor eternally sits on the throne even thoug there is mention it will fail eventually. Come on 40k has been around forever will it ever change?
Tired of how all IG are from some crazy deathworld, cant there just be a regular guard unit that goes thru some crazy battles?

+More Detail about Space Marines when they're NOT fighting.
+More Thousand Sons, how they operate now, Ahriman etc.

-Less "Mechanicus don't know anything about their own technology".
-Less portaying Imperial Command as being utterly incompetent, I want them to seem desparate, yet competent.
-Less "What enemy shall we pick? Eh, just use Orks again."

More -

-Stories from a Tau perspective or Xenos perspective in general, i know it can be tough to do but a race like the Tau have quite logical thought processes and could be done, even from Gue`Vessa (Humans who are part of the Tau empire)

-Graphic novels and cool little books like the Imperial infantrymans uplifting primer etc being more common and done more

-Humans being used more in the Tau empire and some actual background on Tau society to explain whats actually going on

Less...

-Grey Knights being ridiculous

-Ciaphas cain saying "However if i had known what would happen next i would have stayed at home etc"

-A sense of scale.....single regiments defending continents, yeahhhh ok then.

ultramarines defeated somehow, not wiped out but put in their place preferibly by chaos marines.

I'd be interested in a story from the perspective of a non-astartes chaos pirate preying on the imperium.

The despoilers inner court, or stuff dealing with the lords of terra, stuff dealing with top people on both sides.

Wars with classic xenos: orks, eldar.

Get rid of:

Virtuous portrayals of the Eldar

the Tau in any capacity except as tyrannid fodder.

Necrons

What you mean about eldar...? Mostly eldar are portrayed as donkey-caves who can see the future, and know how to stop the, but are too arrogant to ask for help... They are always being deceptive ans sneaky, where are they virtuous?

anyway

+Eldar fluff
+Chaos being more than a bad joke
+IoM losing significant fight. The story is they are fighting off extinction! Not beating EVERYONE

-Matt Ward. Seriously, if he touches my beloved Eldar, I will find and kill him.
-Emperor. Think about it, if the emperor dies, then it would make it much more desperate. But it could be a 'secret' so fanboys can believe what they want. By that I mean High Lords cover it up.
-Tyranids not doing all that much. They have killed a few unheard of worlds/craftworlds, but are beaten back by anything that is well known. As much as I love eldar, I wouldn't mind if Iyanden had DIED!!

Xenos (fleshing them out and what not)

Losses of the Imperium

A greater sense of the situation being grimdark, The only thing that really makes 40k really seem grimdark at all are those last couple of sentences that are tacked onto fluff like an afterthought saying something like, "even as badass as they were, and even if they reclaimed 100 sectors in the name of the emperor, it was all for naught." I'd like the fluff in itself to be grimdark, not to be dully reminded at the end that the situation is hopeless when the rest of the fluff kinda points in the opposite direction. /rant

Less

Space Marines winning, not necessarily chapters being wiped out, just losing important battles

Exterminatus (why does seem to be that every ship or fleet or detachment has the capability to pull off an Exterminatus?)

Matt Ward touching fluff, you can write a mean army codex BUT DON'T TOUCH THE FLUFF!!!! (I'm in the process of changing out the fluff of the Necron codex with my own fluff)

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.
