So my buddy just invited me to play a 200 point kill-Team tournament next month and I really wanna go with my Necrons... but Im pretty new to this stuff. Does anybody have any good ideas on which teams to take i.e.

3 Wraiths (w/WhipCoils) & 3 Tomb Blades

or

1 Triarch Stalker & 2 Tomb blades

With these choices am I gonna get slaughtered by horde squads?.... Should I use something totally different?...

Like I said... new to this stuff and I'm trying to learn everything I can before I get massacred... lol! Just want to have a good time. But I would love some input from experienced players... Thanks.

You could, if you desire, grab 11 immortals of your favorite flavor, if you wanna swap the field with bodies.
Heck, you could bring 10 tomb blades for 200 points, nobody could ever get into assault with you, and you still get reanimation protocols

Coolbeans iGuy... that sounds pretty BA. Ten Tomb Blades out flanking and shooting. Should I give them Neb Scopes for 5 points each?

that'll drop me to 8, but hey... chances are there will be terrain. BS5. Gauss Blasters for free. Sounds Cool...

What about 5 x Deathmark for Deep Strike, Sniper, Pinning wound on 2+ goodness and 7 scarab bases for tarpit and mech?

BS5 would give them lots and lots of shooty death, your only issues would be armor

rofl,
5 Wraiths (2x coils, 1x caster) = 200
5 Immortals (tesla) = 85
+
Overlord (scythe, scarabs) = 115
Annihilation Barge = 90
+
6 Immortals (gauss) = 102
3 Destroyers = 120
+
5 Scarabs = 75
Destroyer Lord = 125
+
2 Wraiths (1x caster) = 75
...
this is the best I could come up with?
I am horrible at low point match-ups.

5 wraiths: you are going to get owned by 20+ ork armies. You can only kill 1 ork in combat per wraith per charge. Just too many to deal with in all assault list.

You can't have an HQ or HS in kill teams. It's 0-1 elite, 0-2 troops, 0-1 FA.

Destroyers and scarabs aren't bad, but all they have to do is down the scarabs and make you test.

The keys to kill teams is to get bodies on the table and get shooting on the table. Assaults aren't worth it because of the way it works. You can only charge one enemy, and then you are ripe for the picking once you kill it. Shooting lets you kill more and stay in cover.
The types of armies you have to ready yourself for are:
SM Tactical squad, be able to kill off 5 marines in 3 turns.
Limited armor, be able to deal with low AV vehicle/walker. Sometimes even a solo dread with be taken.
Hordes, be able to deal 10 wounds a turn, as you will always run into a guy running 20+ orks or nids.

Necrons are pretty damn good at Kill teams because their basic trooper is sturdy, has a good gun, and is hard to put down. 11 Immortals is hard to beat.

Based on racta's comment I'd take 5 deathmarks and 6 immortals then.

Kill teams sounds like a fun format. I haven't played this before, Is the mission kp, objective or what?

The "official" mission from the Battle Mission book is it's own beast. You kill each other until an army reaches 50% casualties. When an army reaches that, at the beginning of every turn you take an LD test using the highest value from your team. If you fail, your team retreats and you lose. If you pass, you continue the game but next turn you test at -1. The turn after that (if you pass again) you go to -2.

It is also very easy to add in other objectives and use the official mission as a backbone. And since it's a small scale game, you can get creative with the missions without sacrificing balance.

As for deathmarks: You'll find they are less than stellar in kill teams. One of the mission requirements is no deep striking and no reserve, all units must start the game in play (you can infiltrate though). Also, since each model is it's own unit, 2+ to wound mechanic gets weird. Each deathmark will have to choose a single enemy model as its mark. Which can get confusing, and also is only max of 5 models with a mark, who can just walk away from the deathmark that is supplying it. You will also find 1 shot weapons are not as good in kill teams especially with only a 4+ to wound. That being said, I run eldar rangers because I love the thought of snipers in a kill team, and I have lost before because of them. (I'm stubborn, and I love my KT display board.)

Just to show it off again

RE Kill Teams: ... I like the sound of this thing!

I shall commence devising a plan, now that I know the rules. (I'm assuming no HQ excludes Royal Court types too then, right?)

PS. that display board is AWESOME.

Kill teams are indeed a ton of fun. I almost always take a tooled up team of DE reavers. Which are entertaining which ever way it goes.

Thanks for the Heads up racta... the buddy who invited me is a Nid player as well as Dark Eldar so I wouldnt mind giving him a run for his money...
11 immortals sounds cool. I like the Deathmarks mix. but im afraid once they Deep strike on the table they're easy pickings. So straight Immortals would be the key?

Racta, if each model is a separate unit, do you have to stay within codex unit restrictions? So in a kill team can you take just 1 deathmark?

Skoffs, I went and got the rules (its in the battle missions book). Looks like you follow codex with a modified FOC. 0-1 Elite, 0-2 troop 01 FA.

Cool thing is that once you have a selection every model plays as independent!!

I hate to necropost but it is relevant.
Hunters from hyperspace says a deathmark unit wounds a mark on 2+ ..
It does not state that it has to be the same deathmark unit that creates the mark.
As such ALL your deathmarks will wound ALL marked targets on a 2+.

I run 5 marks and the rest warriors.
both are 24" range, and rapid @ 12"
Sniper causes rend on to wound of 6.. so thats the ap needed for sternguard, termies and other high Armored targets.
The mass gauss will easily tick away any chimeras or dreads put on the board.

As far as weaknesses in a vanilla kill team, i found it quite difficult to both win and get the 3 or 5 vps for the objective in the center of the map.
