A subject I brought up on the other site a while ago but since they are not as fluff driven I thought I'd post here. The subject is Immigration in the Infinity universe. I happen to think there would be quite a bit of it going to Ariadna after the were found again. Some maybe to the Nomads but not much. but I can totally see like some Americans leaving Earth to start a new life in the USAridana.

Any thoughts?

Well I think it really depends on who wants to go where.

The biggest deal are the people... and their ideals.

Dawn is sort of like the Wild West of the planets. Paradiso is a total battleground, and the Nomad Nations are the place to be if you're shunned by your existing groups.

But really, if you're a citizen of PanO, why would you want to go to some grubby backwater planet?

Maybe they are sick of a dependency on technology, or religious freedom? PanO has become pretty dominated by the Christian church it sounds like. Or they might even just be bored with the cushy lifestyle.

Nomads are not necessarily the cast outs. Many could be those who don't want the influence of Aleph in their lives but like technology.

While Paradiso is currently fighting either each other or the aliens there is still a lot of opportunity for people as well.

Defections would probably occur. Perhaps someone in PanO, for example, is offered a lucrative deal by Yu Jing and defects there.

Otherwise immigration within factions probably occurs. Immigration from Antecimento to Neoterra for example.

Political/religious immigration might also occur. Converts to Haqqislam might move to Bourak. Someone sympathetic to Ariadna or Nomads might move there.

I opened this thread and thought it would be about people coming to Infinity from 40!

But I think you are right, you can imagine that kind of thing happening all the time. Although, it's also not hard to imagine Ariadna implementing their own 'Monroe Doctrine' to stop too many fresh waves of immigrants coming. You could say that the native 'dog soldiers' are the equivalent of the native Americans resisting the drive westward, but then I'm not sure what the comparison to the Combined Army invasion would be!

Maybe in the same way that the Nomad homeships are a harbour from the dispossessed (perhaps those escaping Aleph, or PanO for example), the persecuted minorities, then somewhere like Paradiso could function in the same way?

since it's only 200 years all of the worlds that are found be humans would be sparsely populated even if earth doubled it's population by then. There is a LOT of land that can be farmed to feed the masses. Paradiso is said to be lush to the extreme for instance.

Is there any indication in the fluff just how many people there are? I know, for example that Nomads have a relatively small population but what about Yu Jing? Or PanO? There seems to be plenty of them.

I could certainly see people dissatisfied with society joining up with the Nomads, and a certain amount of flow into Pan-O from the other powers... however, I don't see a lot of flow into and out of the major or minor powers other than that. Most of them will have ways people can move somewhere they prefer within their power's sphere of influence.
