Day 1

This is a blog to follow the progress of my gang's creation, games and updates and the introduction of new members and... The whole Necromunda adventure really. I finally get to try Necromunda as the local store is starting a proper Necromunda campaign. I dug out all my old Dwarves, with the original Necromunda stories I read back in the day wishing I had some one to play it with. (everyone just played 40k vs. 2 back in the day)

I hope you enjoy following the process of the gangs creation and then reading about it's adventures.

Those of you who know me understand why there really was no other solution than to do an =I= themed lot, but something that would fit in the Necromunda world, so not overpowering behemoths, tooled to kill daemons like Frostschein. So a new =I= was to be created, more covert and agile, along with a few trusty servants and a retinue of outlaws, low life, mercenaries, ex-IG and other scum he has "hired" to get the job done.

There was NO other option than to use the House Delaque rules.
- "House delaque benefits from a special understanding with the Imperial House, providing not just materials but information...
- "Other houses are suspicious of the Delaques. Their appearance perpetuates their reputation for double dealing and espionage..."
- "The territory of the house is particularly dark and shadowy as befits a people whose motives and methods are shrouded in mystery.?

Necromunda will soon find that there?s a new Sheriff in town!

I'm in a little bit of a hurry, since the campaign starts next week. I will post pics of the models and the proceedings daily.

Day 2

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> 2 full days of work later, I?m ready to for painting and the whole gang is primed.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> I quickly figured the starting line up and then spent a hectic day of putting the lads together ? too hectic, too long and still only had stupid looking little men with no heads. This was thankfully followed by a lot more enjoyable day of detailing them, adding bitz, gear, little bit of sculpting and so forth, even the occasional head.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> This is in many ways a unique modelling experience, since I know I will be removing/swapping/adding stuff to ?finished? figs, something I?ve never really done before. I made sure they aren?t too full of stuff and that the arm/gun swapping would be easy. The models aren?t very special yet, but the fights and stories and the figs? evolution will make them special and should be fun to witness.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Here are some pics ? it?s not a good idea to prime your figs and take pics!, but rest assured, they will soon receive a coat of paint which will turn them more interesting. I?ll get painting tomorrow and tell you more of the ideas behind the characters and their names/equipment and of course talk about the paint scheme. I?ll aim to finish one fig a day, but to start with some factory style painting.

Very cool stuff.  Almost makes me want to take my Necro stuff back up.

I had a funny observation about 40K and Necro.  Ever notice how Gang member can carry Heavy Bolters, Lascanons, Heavy Plasma guns and the like all by themselves.  While in 40K, they need a two man crew to carry, load and such.  I guess that proves that life in the Spyres is really hard.  Makes you a bad boy.  ;~)

Woohoo! Great looking gang you have there Mig! Can't wait to get to pound their faces in the mud!

About the heavy weapons:

IG weapons team carries the weapon itself, tripod for it (more stable firing platform than if the weapon were shot while being carried), and extra ammo to last the whole battle (I doubt the gangers carry that much ammo with them).

I have the results of the last chamber: You are a horrible person.

Day 3

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> No pics today ? but this will be made up for tomorrow when you see the finished Inquisitor.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> I designed a palette of browns (leather), greys, mustard, beige, khaki, olive drab and similar camouflage I used for my IG, with some yellow and red thrown in for spark. This will go with the bases that are made of three colour areas: grey (stone slabs), khaki (floor stiles) and brown (dirt) ? these will be tied together with a light grey ?dust? of dry brushing.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> The Inquisitor is the darkest model in the bunch. He has the least skin visible and should look formidable and sinister, as fitting to his role. He has some lighter areas of mustard/beige to tie in with the gang of course. I?m almost done with him and also painted the base colours on all of the bases.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> From day 4 onwards I plan to have one model done everyday ? if I get two done during the weekend days, maybe I can take a day off at some point even.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> On Monday we have the first campaign meeting and will roll for the territory etc. There will be several other gangs with a lot of effort spent on the models. There?s Hammer?s Blood Pact gang, Sick Bunny?s SWAT guys with 50kal snipers and other coolness, and the guy who?s running it has done really great armies in the past, so I have high hopes for his gang. There can be more that I?m not aware of yet. So hopefully the battle report pics will see great looking gangs fighting it out on some neat terrain.

Hi Migs, I must agree with everyone else, the gang looks awesome so far. Care to provide a list of the gang and it's equipment? I am about to start a necro gang too (I'm a bit burned out on =][= minis, and I don't want to get boged down with a 40k army, so I've ordered a few vansaar minis and a bounty hunter).

One thing I would suggest though is not to start smashing the minis apart when you get upgrades, this way lies madness. WHy not design a few spare gangers and have them partially assembled, ready to finish up and paint as and when you find out what equipment/injuries etc your guys get? That way you'll have a bigger, more impressive gang, without the tedium and risk involved in destroying your completed minis.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> I?m still learning the new camera and had some difficulties getting the colours right without daylight. Since the fig isn?t varnished, there are some reflections etc. that don?t look good either. I?ll take new pics after varnish and in daylight at some point.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]-->

Day 4

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Inquisitor Gauer ? just about done.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> I?m still learning the new camera and had some difficulties getting the colours right without daylight. Since the fig isn?t varnished, there are some reflections etc. that don?t look good either. I?ll take new pics after varnish and in daylight at some point.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Anyway, I?m happy with the way the leader came out ? and looks in real life. The scheme will work nicely and tie the group together, yet offer me plenty of space for individualisation. Its clear now that the paintjobs will be much more careful than I intended, the original plan being a quick lick of paint for gaming.

:: EDIT:  NEW better pics after varnish and in daylight ::

Thanks Jomi

I will be mainly adding gear and swapping weapons as I go. It's so much less work than doing a new fig. I can paint the new bits seperately, then replace the old ones with the new (or jsut glue in the case of the gear) and handpaint varnish on. Minimum risk involved.

Looks nice, but I'd like to see something to draw the viewer's eyes to his face, as it stands now the chest and face are a sort of anti-focal point (err... I know that makes no sense in terms of the physics of waves and optics, but I'm giving myself some language license). I really think it's the combination of the black hair, chest, hat AND shadowed face.

I reckon the ][ definately needs to be picked out in colour. I really like the reat though, esp the weathering on the metal and cloth, and those little creases(?) on the brim of the hat.

Day 5

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> WOOOOHOOOO!!! Vallejo Matte Varnish rules! Thanks to a tip from a fellow finnish painter, I finally found a proper matte varnish that looks great and should be reliable too (both qualities the GW matte varnish is left wanting) I first hit them with gloss for durability and then with Vallejo for looks. SO far it looks to be the best of both worlds.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> So I also took new pics of Gauer, in proper light and after varnish. I?ll remove the old ones.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> I also present to you the second member of the gang: ?Loot?. He is a sneaky little juve, who can?t stop ?liberating? equipment, tools, guns and whatnot. At the moment Loot is carrying what is left of Raddeck, a dead ganger after the two went out on their own. Master Gauer wont be happy. You can see Raddecks head sticking out of the bag, and the end of his lasgun too. If loot ever makes it a ganger, he?s already carrying a proper gun ? currently though, he only has his rusty little dagger to fight with.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> Tomorrow we have a meeting with the campaign gang and the GM and we will roll for territory etc. and fix the first games! I?ll post the first gang summary sheet tomorrow and of course pics of the third gang member.

i don't think we can really say if the =][= needs more color until we see the rest of the gang (or at least a few representatives) to get some context. sure, his face is mostly covered - and that's always been a primary focal point for me - but that's just the way the model is sculpted. short of a head-swap, that =][='s face isn't going to be a focal point ever.

regardless, i love the work so far and i shall be anxiously following this thread as Necromunda is one of my all time favorite GW games and Migsula's work has always been a highlight of Dakka, IMO.

as i'm obsessivly preparing for an Adepticon "hobby seminar", i can't help but ask if you've considered making your gang members' weapons swapable with (rare earth) magnets? it would remove the need to break and change minis as the gang grows (always a mental hurdle for me in Necro) and let you switch back and forth for various incarnations of the gang. with a bit of careful planning, you could even swap weapons from ganger to ganger as you go - that's my secret evil plan for my next Necro gang...

then again, with a mini-a-day schedule maybe you're productive enough not to need that.

cheers,
chris.

Hey Migsula, Im working on a mod for Necromunda for the ASP, it would be the same as the normal necromunda but with different gangs and characters...perhaps you might be interested in dropping this inquisitor in the storyline or something?

The Inquisitor looks quite dark in the pics. Too bad you cannot really make out all the different shades in the paintjob.

I've seen this fig live and again have to point out that the picture doesn't make it justice. Although the scheme is dark, Mig has managed to put in interesting variation of colors. The dark pictures really make it look like it has only black and brown colours.

The little fellow came out better in the pics. He's funny and characterful addition to your retinue (gang) and I'll bet that once he gets some experience under his belt, he'll become your biggest hero!

DAY 6

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> It?s Nils Madsen, a ganger, coming at you today. Madsen has sailed the merchant fleets around the sector and beyond, acting as chief of security for dodgy cruisers and captains and this is how he crossed ways with Inquisitor Gauer many, many years ago.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> I?m happy with the conversion and most of the paintjob. I did screw up with the scarf, trying to make it look like those worn in the middle east, but it?ll do. There?s also a pic of the first 3 together.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> We rolled for the territory and experience today. I got fitting places like ?guilder contacts? for my gang. I?ll see if I can find a handy way to post the sheet. Maybe just scan it and post the pic or see if AB has a handy way to do it.

<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--><!--[endif]--> There were several cool warbands! A Cawdor one made of converted ringwraiths! Very cool and a great theme. Hammer?s Blood Brotherhood of course. Nice looking Escher and Orlock gangs. Plus others we didn?t see yet. I have high hopes for Sickbunny?s SWAT, because he?s a very talented modeller. I took some pics ? but the lighting was really crap. I?ll see what I can do with PS at some point.

You must have some pretty good hobbyists in your area if it is. I really like the latest guy, a chequered bandana is rather ambitious, it looks great. I'm not so keen on the juve. Whan I first saw that (primed) I couldn't make it out, I though it was a ratskin looking down the barrel of his gun (looking for a blockage or something!)

I got my Vansaars today. I'll be starting them on the weekend, just gotta work out a scheme and do some minor conversions.
