It's all right there on the tin, folks. For all of their concentrated awesome, and a gakload of dakka, Baneblades are ferociously rare, in my LFGS. Any ideas on why, in terms of gametalk?

Expensive $ and point wise and not allowed in default games of Warhammer 40,000. When it comes to Apoc if you only have 1 it'll just get focus fired down.

Baneblades SHOULD be rare though, so it kinda works. If every game featured them they wouldn't be special :(

At the points and money level needed to get a baneblade, you can get a titan instead, which will be more durable and have access to more destructive guns.

baneblades are only like $100... titans START at the $400 price range, and thats not including arms.

heavy price Tag ($100 for Standard or Shadowsword). requires Apoc battles. and costs 500 (for 450 for shadowsword) points.

The only Titan i've seen was my local stores display case (a reaver that was sold at one point, never caught how much for)

Edit: in the store..... as im aware im the only one (besides a single other baneblade i know of) with Baneblades/Super Heavy units.

I have 7 Total Super Heavy Tanks. 3 Baneblades (1 GW kit, 1 Maus Kitbash, 1 E-100 Kitbash), 1 Shadowsword (GW kit), 1 Malcador Annialator (M3 Lee Kitbash), a Vanquisher Macharius Tank (M60 MBT kitbash), and finnaly a Minotaur artillery (T-34/85 Kitbash).

And while it doesn't count as an official super heavy unit. I have a 1/35th scale 280mm Atomic Cannon built as a special Apoc unit (it dwarfs a Baneblade lengthwise)

Why? cause i like building the bigger tanks for fun.

In roughly a year there'll be one in my friendly games, a shadowsword. Its the final one of my 'reward projects'

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Good question. I wish there were rules allowing to take the model in regular games, but none exist other than that one gametype in spearhead. Perhaps in more casual games if you and your opponent agree on it you could bring it. I think more people would own baneblades and the like if GW actually allowed them in normal games.

A really fun scenario in battle missions allows them. It goes as follows
3 Bane Blades (bog standard) vs 1500 pt army (standard codex/foc/non apoc etc)

The baneblades have to reach the far table edge, the army has to stop them.

Know thy self. Everything follows this.

My friend has 2 Baneblades. Most people shudder at the price tag and will just but other smaller kits, when in reality they're spending more over the course of a few weeks and getting less points. Granted the other kits they but grant them greater flexibility when making an army list that isn't apocalypse, but if you're playing apocalypse the Baneblade is pretty awesome and can be difficult to deal with.

Yeah, the reason is mostly it's an Apoc unit.
I've built / am in the processing of building 3 Dark Eldar Biotitans, and while all are technically balanced to regular 40k, I'll get to use one of them at a time, maybe once every other month.

I assume the same applies to baneblades.

You can take a Superheavy Tank in the Spearhead Expansion, but I've never seen anyone even play that.

Well technically they conform perfectly to the current ruleset (short of having an FOC slot), it's just up to your opponent to allow you to play it.

Most people own a baneblade/shadowsword/stompa because you can buy them in plastic from GW. They just only get to use them in Apoc

Here's hoping they will be allowed in regular games in 6th edition. *I got 3 of them looking cool but not much else otherwise *

But probably 90% of the people that actually OWN titans, make them, themselves, for much less then the starter price. I think its mostly because in normal 40k they arnt allowed with out permission.

Only allowed in apoc expensive and hard to transport. I think we've covered all the reasons.
