My daemons are going to try to take on an ork kan wall and I need help from both Ork and Daemon players to figure out what I should take to topple the orks. I have his list of what hell be using, and I need to find a list to counter that army. I would really appreciate the help on this one.

Heres the Ork Kan wall.....

2 Deff dreads
1 Megadread
6-9 Kans
2 Battle wagons w/ 30 boys each
2 Big Meks w/CFF
Maybe some lootas

Heres what I was thinking to combat this....

Ok, i know nothing about ork kan walls, but i know a fair bit about daemons.

Screamers are your friends! With meltabomb jaws, and a decent squad size, you can multi-assault and deal some serious damage. But DONT drop a DP for them, scrap a unit of horrors. Horrors have BS3 and DPs have a BS of 5, if your looking to scrap his kans with bolt, its better to do it with the DP (roll of 2+ to hit).

I'd advise against breath on your princes. You dont want to get anywhere near his 30 boys, or he'll eat you up by sheer numbers alone. Go for Daemonic Gaze.

As for tactics, have your prefered wave of 3 DPs, Fateweaver, blue scribes and 2 Horror squads (try and get 1 squad with an Icon) come in. Thats a good 7 Bolts turn 1. Then your other horror squads can land near your icon.
Also, dont get hung up on the fact that there are ~9 kans on the table, remember the 30 boys riding in transport. Crunch their transport just to slow them down. They will wreck face in CC with horrors.

I mean... you're list tailoring.. which is pretty frownable. But as long as we're doing that..... then your list is great.

If you want to get really crazy, Phlegmgrinders wouldn't be bad choices either.

Okay, I'm right now wondering on the Ork army: what is a megadread, and how can he have 2 Battlewagons ON TOP OF 6-9 kans if kans are in squads of 1-3? And concerning your list, you don't need screamers; you have the Bolts and monstrous creatures to get through the armor of Kanz, but you'll need icons if you want more precise landings to tear Orks apart with warpfire. Another rule; keep Fateweaver out of combat, but in the center of your army for his oracle of eternity rule.

Its the FW Megadread and hes using the rules for them. All I know is what I saw on the table. And list tailoring shouldn't be frowned upon in campaigns when you know your enemy and what you will need to take over, its perfectly acceptable to plan ahead and exploit weakness.

The issues is this, he will either run the Kan wall army or just a few hundred boys.... either way the amount of horrors I have will thin down the horde. That accompanied with the 8 suicide flamers will make it nearly impossible for me not to win. Flamers against boys is just easy.

The idea is to have the bolts pop the transports and then the flamers will flamer the boys inside. The rest of the bolts will go towards the Kans along with the DPs. I think ill take the first responses advice and drop the 90 pts worth of Breath weapons and swap out for screamers. Maybe drop a horror squad and make it a fat squad of screamers.

he his a shooty ork army from the looks of it wtih a fair ammount of his stuff being bs 3 you have enough shots to take out his infantry but you 100% without a dought have enough to kill his vehicals you might to melee his heavy vehicals and shoot the walkers but other then that your ok

@Big Mek I dont know how, but thats what I saw on the field. He might be using FW rules I dunno. Im just telling ya what I observed on his field.

I think that if anything, my horrors will tie him up in CC. 4+ saves are really annoying and that could be useful. I always find ways to make sacrificial horrors useful..

@jbsnv. Im a daemon player too.

Dont drop too many horror squads. I think the massed S4, AP4, assault 3 warpfire shots will really ruin his day in terms of thinning down his boys.

Also, with the massed warpfire shots, i start to doubt the need for flamers. If your horrors can down all of the boys, then what are your flamers shooting at? Yes the have warpfire, to contribute to the ork massacre, but they also have template weapons. If you get too close, and dont kill all of the orks with it, they can assault you, ruin your squad and spend a turn in CC not getting shot. Do you see where i'm coming from?

you can get something like and additional 14 horros for the cost of the flamers. Or you can get some Bloodcrushers to mob up the kans / what ever else.

Im pretty sure you can only put 20 boys in a battlewagon... Not 30... I dont have my codex to hand so cant check... Biggest threat as a ork player i have faced from deamons is soulgrinders... 5 attacks on a charge! A couple of them with there shooty attacks shud dent that wall at least a bit.. Excuse my lack of deamonology but that flame template weapon the soulgrinder has could easily take out a squad of kans... Remembering the kustom forcefield grants you obscured target which is a COVER SAVE AND FLAME TEMPLATES IGNORE COVER.. Dont let your ork opponents forget that .. Happy chopping dude.. I hope this insight orky knowledge helps out

On top of that the list youve put up that he is using seems totally illegal anyway.... The bigmeks would make the dread troops... The mega dread and 2 squads of kans is ur heavy section taken up.... And boys cant buy battlewagons as transports... Only nobs can... Meanin he is fielding 5 hvy slots... Unless he is defending a planet strike game that list cant be used

Screamers are pretty bad at taking down Khans since they hit on a 6 in CC against them. I would consider using them as a roadblock turn 2 to force the wagons to Tank Shock through them (a free Melta Bomb hit is a great even on AV 14).

I would lose Breath, Hide and Wings on the Princes. You can DS within 24" of the wagons.

With the 360 points you save, I would add a maxed unit of Crushers - I think 360 is enough for 8x Crushers w/ Fury, Icon, Instrument, You need something that will mow through Boys (he probably has 20 in each vehicle) or he is going to trash all your shooting units - 18" range is not that far when he gets fleet for a turn unless you are REALLY good at guessing distances.

@ Calypso.... no, no. The idea is to SHOOT the boys to death, not get killed by a "who gets the first charge wings" contest....

The list is Mono Tz. The only other list I could possibly concieve would be an all nurgle list w/ blight drones and nurgle princes flocking the field.

M aybe the Ork player is using the IA 8 rules for dread Mob. You can have Kans as fast in there. Not sure about the battlewagons though. I don't seem to remember thme being in the list. And yes they can only carry 20 boyz. It alos covers the megadread, but that is also a heavy, or HQ.

I get the concept of shooting the Boyz to death, I just think that any list needs to have some balance. Otherwise he is going to just wreck you in the assault phase - which he will stretch into your next shooting phase.

I would still make those changes and increase the size of the Horror units then. You can add another 20 Horrors for that cost.
