I'm thinking about how to convert up a Duke Sliscus model and I really want him to have some unique and gruesome weapons to help him stand out.

I haven't been able to find anything even remotely close to what I was considering though, so now I'm wondering if scratch building might be a solution.

My problem is I'm not particularly experienced sculpting so I would want to be able to mostly use a more solid material for the majority of it.

Does anyone have any advice on how to go about undertaking a task like this and what materials I should maybe be looking into?

Well it canbe tricky sometimes, but you don't always have to sculpt something. I made these a while back:

They were made from arms of a Dark Eldar warrior, the blade attachment to a dark eldar Splinter Rifle and some lances from Chaos Knights (which were shaved down some).

Plasticard is the stuff to use but it can ve tricky getting straight edges, especially if like me you try to sand it down to what you want.

This was my attempt at a Eviscerator. There was allot of trial and error involved (very fine sandpaper and files required), and all I was doing was making a pointed end!

And as it finished...

Thanks guys, that's kind of where I was leaning but I hadn't seen any good examples of it and wasn't sure about how easy it would be to add a sharpened edge to a piece of it.

I'll definitely be giving that a shot.

@notprop: Do you recall what thickness you used for that?

I would say its the thickness he used was either 2mm or 1mm plasticard. I would lean more toward 2mm though..

I did the wrist blades on these guys using 1mm thick plasticard. It gives a nice camber when you file it off.

If you're after something much chunkier, or need longer blades to be more stable, then maybe 2mm might be a better bet.

Yeah I think I used 2mm. It allowed me to pin it to the rest of the sword with 1mm rod, plus it was sturdier as mentioned.

1mm was too flexible particularly if you are going to put any GS details on it.

Yes I second 2mm. I have used it for many things including swords/blades for my orks. It looks great.

I think 2mm would be too thick for Dark Eldar weapons, they are all pretty delicate looking, but then, I kind of wanted something fairly long, so I'm not sure how well 1mm will support it, maybe I will just have to get a sample of a few different thicknesses and give them a shot to see what works.
