Anyone know of a readily made clear tube/stem type product that can be used instead of the ones you get from GW? I don't mind a black base on the bottom with flock and the like, I'm really just looking for a clear stem type material, but I don't mind a base and stem. I've browsed some styrene websites but with no luck. Anyone else out there find something like this already?

Clear acrylic rod in various diameters is available pretty cheaply from ebay. You'd probably need to get something quite thick, and drill a hole in your model and the base to fit..

If memory serves, the clear plastic boxes that choclates come in (the thick hard plastic, think ferrero rocher or something similar) do actually receive plastic glue well. You could take the clear plastic flying stem, and glue it down to a cut-out from that plastic. Otherwise, I think any clear acrylic acrylic at 0.2 or 0.3 mm will work.

Isn't there a company that makes screw-in bases/stems? Prevents a lot of "snapping" but I don't remember who the company is that sells them.

if your model is still unassembled what you can do is plan where the base stem will go.. and put a threaded nut inside and have your hole already drilled. use the nut to screw in your threaded rod and blam G2G.. no snapping and very strong

Are you looking for something sturdier? In tjat case, brass or steel rod, available at a hardware store should do just fine.

I appreciate all the tips/comments. There wasn't a problem with them being sturdy enough, I just didn't want to buy 9 bases from GW, so I was looking for an alternative. I'll look into that clear acrylic rod.

Look on ebay for Speepy Stems, they make metal rods for flying bases in different size and diameters.
They are about $8 for a pack of 3. Look it up
