I have been playing 40k for over 10 years and fantasy off and on for about 8 years. Massive collections and multiple armies, plus several specialist games. Combined, well over 30,000 points of stuff.

So, I figured it's time to get another warhammer tattoo, and here is the tricky part. I have my first army represented with a zoanthrope, but I want to do a large scale piece.

I want to tattoo one of two things. These placement will be hop left thigh. I will be tattooing it myself as a tattoo artist for 7 years and I feel I am up to par for what I want to do. The first is Ahriman of the Thousand Sons. My favorite character, fluff, and art for wh40k. The other option is to do a warhound Titan to scale if not a little larger. Go big or go home, right? I will have to finish painting and assembling my titan before I can do that one so I can take several photos and get all the details.

The next question is, pre heresy (red and bone) or post heresy (blue and gold) for both?

What are your thoughts?

Most people will recognize post heresy i would think.
Pre heresy is a niche group within an already niche group.

Post Heresy.

Not only do I feel it's a better color scheme to begin with, but I think blue holds up better on skin than red in tattoos

Firstly, your saying your going to be tattooing it yourself? I do not know any tattoo artist who tattoo's themself. Mainly as the ability to twitch and ruin your work is high. Your going it on your left thigh? On top or on the side? If your going side, which is where it should be, your not going to be able to twist and tattoo the level of detail. Just saying, i have multiple tattoo's, but a few different studio's. Ever artist i've talked to has said they have never tattoo'd themself as "its not worth it."

Secondly: Post heresy is more recognizable, I think a Mark of Tzeentch would come out clearer, and have a higher ability to be customized, then tattooing a space marine. I call sheenagins on the idea your tattooing a warhound titan on yourself.

Post heresy, have someone else do it. Doctors do not do their own appendectomies. Lawyers don't represent themselves in cases that matter. So on and so forth.

And those that do have a fool for a client.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I know plenty of tattooists who tattoo themselves.

In fact I dont think I've met one who hasnt (and I meet a lot).

And to your original question, post heresy. I like the 'hound idea too.

I would say get a symbol from a Chaos codex as it looks bada**. Ive been to a few Death Metal shows and seen some tats so you could pass it off as part of the following. Just dont mention the words toy, miniature, or model painting or its gonna be a beatdown.

Chaos daemons 1850
Chaos Marines 1850
2250+

2500++ (Wraithwing)

I moved so starting from scratch. These were the armies I had, rebuilding my Chaos.
