Subject: Was surprised to learn that the Pentagon has contingency plans for occupying Mexico
When I say occupy, I don't mean that the USA is planning on launching an attack 1917 General Pershing style.
Anyway, I was speaking to my old politics lecturer and he mentioned a recent newspaper article that stated just that. Apparently, Washington, is worried that the drugs cartels may well make the country so ungovernable, that Mexico will trangress into Somalia.
In this event, Washington is predicting not only a major humanitarian crisis from fleeing refugees, but has drawn up plans for turning south Texas and New Mexico into large bases for all the national guard units that will be sent down to lend a hand.
Also, steps may have to be taken to seize gold reserves and mexican army weapons dumps to stop the cartels grabbing them.
I knew things were bad in Mexico, but from what this article has been saying, it all makes sense.

Anyway, Mexico is a more immediate (and very near) problem. If you think about how many Americans have been killed as a result of the drug problem (overdoses, gang violence etc) compared to the war on terror, then you have to wonder why the marines are thousand of miles away to the east, when they're needed much closer to home.

We also have contingency plans for Canada; there's an entire section of the pentagon devoted to drawing up plans for pretty much whatever; you know, "just in case." the plans for mexico have existed for a while. It just seems more likely that they may get used now.

Considering the actual relationship between the US and Canada and the US and Mexico I'm not at all surprised that there are plans drawn up for Mexico. There is not the same level of military and diplomatic cohesion between Mexico as there is with the Canucks. I think most of the world has recognized that the English speaking nations...all former British holdings are basically the Jets. Mexico and the other Latins are the Sharks. Lets dance it out.

Indeed, it's from the original settlement there. Strange language though, I cant imagine how it is after a few hundred years of isolation from its mother tongue.

Yea but come on, "two girl scout troops and a VW minivan" is kind of half assing it on the detailed planning front isn't it? What'd he write on the back of a napkin at a Cartegena bar?

Of course we have plan for taking over Mexico, the idea has even been pitched by various politicians and crazy people like myself.
Smaller southrn border to protect, american citizen granted to the masses, so they will not have to all break into the USA illegally.
Living standards, education and wages will increase.
Win win win.
As for taking over Wales. Heck yea. The Brits don't want you anyways, so wouldn't be much of a war. The USA will gain many many more people with the last name Jones, and will gain an internationally competitive rugby team.
What will Wales get in the deal? Who cares.

That's a rather long stretch. Had you said that generals in Canada soundly defeated Americans in defense of their country that would be one thing. But British troops led by and English and Irish general by way of Bermuda. I think you meant to say the last time the US messed with the United Kingdom the White House burned and the Canadians sat at home and locked the door.

Well, more like the west and southern parts became the Empire, the north-east and north-west joined with russia and the upper-midwest stayed the United States. So....only the south is evil
