Okay, as much as I love the standard Black Templars book, there are just some things that the other book is better at (like vehicles and variety). Im just wondering if it is possible to make a more Black templar themed army from standard marines. I know that 2 CCWs on troops will be difficult (unless I grab Tyberos, but hes pricey. though gives some BT rules too) and I am fine with 10 man max squads. Are bolters on marines good with BT fluff? or should I try the tournament illegal route and incorporate Tyberos?
I was planning on using a captain with relic blade and artificer to be my EC
2 vindicators as a wall for troops
Land raider Crusader with assault terms
and troops on foot
or should I slap the "emperor's champion" on a bike and have some biker troops?
I was also thinking of storm talons for long distance support (main reason to make a BT list using C:SM)

I think its useless to say ur gonna play BT and not use their codex, they are IMHO moer competitve than ur vanila marines and when it comes to versitility they cant b matched by SM.

Read the FAQ it updates the codex to make sense. Also it makes BT really shooty.

You have described a BT list anyway.

3 vindis with potms, is always welcome.
5 men with plasma and lascannon is good.
some assaulty types in landraiders is not so bad.(Choose assault termies)
Probably add some of their cheap typhoons, like 6 of them, and probably some assault marine types in rhinos for extra cc goodness then you are looking at nearly a well rounded in your face list.

Well, I do love the current codex for BT, and I have a few lists pre made (see below) I just wanted to design a list to incorporate the Storm Talon (its great as a mobile firing unit).
anyway, here is my favourite BT list i made, its been on the site before
HQ
EMPEROR’S CHAMPION – AAC – 140
TROOPS
2x 5/5 MELTA/FIST - 310
2x 5/5 PLAS/FIST - 302
10/4 FIST/LRC/SEARCH LIGHT - 481
HEAVY
2x VINDICATORS – EXTRA ARMOUR – SEARCHLIGHT – 262
TOTAL – 1495
And as much as I like the horde in the LRC and the fact that it counts as scoring, I can switch the 10/4 squad for 5 Assault Terminators with Furious Charge (same points) if I want heavier hitters instead of more hitters

As effective the Black Templars are for shooting since the FAQ, I like to play them as they were intended and with their fluff. They make a great choice for a marine horde and can do well in assault (not perfect, but well). If you have any tips or any lists for an assault themed black templars army, that would rock. I just want to avoid their missile/las spam.

Oh and as an aside, is it legal to walk troops in an "x" formation? I have been thinking about it, and if you have 1 unit as one line of the x, and another unit as the other (having them intersect in the middle) you could get an obscured cover save with shenanigans.
Since one unit is 50% or more behind another unit, they could get the obscure cover save.
Should I put that question on a different forum?
