Is there a reason Maximum Threat Overlords (MTOs) tend not to be equipped with a Phylactery? Automatic resurrection with D3 wounds seems strong on an alreayd hard to kill package.
Is it overkill? Do they die too rarely for it to be relevant? Overpriced at 15 pts?

None of the above for me.
There's just better things to spend 15 points on.

Fifteen points for a 66% chance after a 33% or 55% chance of coming back is just not that worth it, especially considering where those 15 points could be put.

When I do Overlords in the CCB, I tend to go:
Warscythe
MSS
Sempiternal Weave
Phase Shifter
There's no reason you couldn't take one, but alternatively you could buy another warrior, another scarab base, etc. Make sure you have your bases covered before you give the Overlord a Phylactery. If you have everything that you need and have 15 points, then sure

Huh? How does that work?

Sorry, my bad. Poorly worded post by me. I meant "D3 wounds in the event of passing the reanimation protocols roll".

Bah! For a minute there I thought that you had figured someone out that would have been game-breaking.
Tease.

Phylacteries are low on my wargear-priority list. Only get them if you have the points but can't afford to get anything else.
Here are the wargears I rank above phylactery - scarabs, whip coils, particle caster (for wound allocation), MSS, semipatenal weave. Of course, if I had enough points, I would opt to get lance-teks first or max out my wraiths (if not already maxed). It's after all these are fulfilled then would I even consider the phylactery.
Maximum Threat Overlord....I like that.

Phylacteries are just too expensive, and the fact that they are random in nature is kinda meh. If it gave you an auto WWB once per game I'd say thats an auto include, but.... meh. You still have a 33% chance to come back with 1 wound!
