You know that one unit in your list, he just be puttin' in work? That one guy who, no matter what's going down, is doing his damn job? Y'all know what I'm talking about.

For me, the meat and potatoes of my list is my Sternguard squad tagging along with Pedro Kantor in a Rhino. In the one game that I've played, they were probably the most reliable and versatile unit in my army, and I'd attribute that to their special ammunition. No matter where or what their target was, they took it out quickly and without fuss, netting me three killpoints over the course of a seven turn game. Thus far, Kantor Squad has two squads of Plague Marines and a squad of Berzerkers to their name.

Edit: Mixed up the Plague Marines and Berzerkers.

Chosen Chaos Space Marine's with the Mark of Slaanesh. This 6 man squad (with 1 power weapon and two melta guns) outflank in a rhino and tear through the rear of my enemy.

One game I had this unit hit the table, pop a predator, all firing missed them, next turn they drove up and popped a rhino. They again were not hit by any shooting. Next turn got out, shot, assaulted, and wiped, the unit that was in the rhino they had just popped. Lost one man to shooting. Next turn popped another predator.

+1 to that Ven Dred. I, stupidly, ran my TL:LC/ML Dred with extra armor, which did me exactly nothing. Next time, I'll be running it as Venerable.

Venoms. They fire out 12 splinter shots, turn in, turn out. Yes, they get blown up, but whittle down units until the rest of my army can deal with them. And they're maneuverable so enemies can't hide. They have bad AP so it doesn't matter if the enemy is in cover. They wound everything on a 4+ and can deposit warriors on objectives too.

Ven Dreads are a somewhat uncompetitive choice, but when you run them in a horde (SW Bjorn + 3 Ven Dreads (2 Plasma, 1 Lascannon, all Flamers)), the opponent won't know how to react.

It's very fun, but easily countered.

Fits my playstyle perfectly. xD I've gotta get a Venerable Dreadnough model, some time. Can't proxy my normal dred forever.

OBLITERATORS. They kill whatever they want at every distance. Armor far away? lascannon. Armor close? melta. Terminators? MEQs? Plasma. Enemies bunched up? TL flamer, or plasma cannon. And they have terminator armor, 2 wounds, and 2 base powerfist attacks.

Biker boyz. They are tough enough to take a beating, fast enough to react to anywhere on the tabletop, and with 3 TL shots are oddly reliable with shooting. Give them a nob with klaw and be ready to POP tanks too.

I think I should note that the TL-LC/ML dred puts in SO much work. For a 135(?) point Elite choice, you can threaten AV14 from extreme ranges, mess around lighter infantry and DECIMATE swarms with frag missiles, and stay tuff while doing it. Really, a solid choice, very underrated kit, IMHO.

The mainstay of my main 2000 point army is the venerable Leman Russ, and they have never failed me. Third Squadron "Inexpugnabilis" especially is worthy of note, as they currently possess the highest medium and heavy vehicle kill rates in the company. In fact, Tank 131 "Adger" has the highest number of enemy armor kills in the company except for my command Vanquisher Tank 101 "Malleus Machinarum."

EDIT:
This is surprising because both Second "Ira Metali" and Third "Inexpugnabilis" possess no upgrades for the basic LRBT except Extra Armor and Battle-Hardened Crew. No Tank Hunters, not even a lascannon.

My Daemon Princes tend to be this way. I run two lash Daemon Princes and one will end up hiding behind a rock half the game while the other flies around punching vehicles. They both use their lashes and well, but both have a different approach to what is on the field. All my Champions never know what to do because at any moment a greater Daemon is going to pop out of one of them. Usually he likes to pop out of the ONE Champion I do not want him to pop out of but he decides that is where he wants to be. Nevermind the Lesser Daemons coming in anywhere they please and either sitting on an objective so the Marines can go kill something, or popping out and jumping into already engaged marines and turning the tide of the fight. They are pretty arrogant with their "as long as we are with marines we can assault out of Deepstrike" attitude that really annoys the other Daemons in the warp so often times I am worried that the reason they do poorly now and again is the other Daemons in the warp twisting warp energy to make them fail because they do not have to wait around for a turn getting shot at like the rest of the Daemons out there.

I play foot guard, so every list at the 750 points level or higher starts with three power blobs. Every game.

Once those points are put down, then it tends to be a question of how much I want a 4th (which is usually), and which support units I'd like to take that evening.

Space wolf marines. Be it either wolf guard with combi -weapons or grey hunters, either in 5 man squads with MotW in a razorback or 10 man squads with standards in rhinos.

People have the misconception that it's long fangs and missile spam that make space puppies over powered.

It's their basic marine. Perhaps the finest unit(s) in the game.
