Can a slaughter master purchase magical armor from the general magic section? Normally wizards can not wear magical armor unless they have the option to purchase it normally, such as light armor or shields. The SM can purchase an ironfist which counts as a shield... S does that allow magical armor?

It's always a good idea to check out the pertinent FAQ if the answer is muddy. GW doesn't always cover the ones it seems they should, but it's always worth a look.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

Yes, this was covered a looooooong time ago.

Jervis is obviously butt hurt over the ruling but the truth prevailed.

The truth being that it was RAI not supposed to be able to give magic armor. But they are allowing it to do so.

I think it has more to do with being able to force opponents to re-roll to wound him before he takes his 5+ armor, then his 4+ ward.
Between the immunity to poison, killing blow and being able to self heal as a lore attribute, I find the armor wearing slaughter master a real bitch to kill.
But, since I give him a magic helmet (leaving the belly unprotected), I claim I support the fluff.

I'm not amazingly concerned about the uberness of it or not. It was pretty RAI, which they confirmed. And they went through the big point in the BRB of saying mages don't get armor except crazy fused weirdos like WoC (as if they needed help). And I just didn't see nekkid ogres being in that category.

Gameplay wise it doesn't do a whole other than doom the Tyrant to something people write stories about but don't play much. I mean there's not a huge reason any mages couldn't have armor other than that--it makes the melee heroes a bit less attractive.

Almost everyone is going to say you need a caster of some sort. For a channel chance and dispel chance. But you don't need a melee hero at all. Piles of Special/Rares are often quite a bit more cost-effective even. But they can't take magic items and be customized.
