I'll be debuting my Necrons in a 3-game tournament Saturday. Some combination of overconfidence, 2 weeks worth of gluing, and the haunting realization that I'll be playing Grey Knights 10 games in a row at Wargamescon has me thinking it'll be good to try something different for a change. Plus, everyone hates Grey Knights nowadays it seems.
After countless revisions, I've settled on this list:
Necrons
Overlord - Warscythe, Catacomb Command Barge with Gauss Cannon
Overlord - Warscythe, Catacomb Command Barge with Gauss Cannon
Royal Court - 3 Harbingers of Destruction, 1 Solar Pulse
Royal Court - 3 Harbingers of Destruction, 1 Solar Pulse
10 Immortals - Tesla Carbines
5 Warriors
5 Warriors
5 Warriors
4 Scarabs
5 Wraiths - 2 Whip Coils
Annihilation Barge - Gauss Cannon
Annihilation Barge - Gauss Cannon
Annihilation Barge - Gauss Cannon
Total - 1500
Basic thoughts:
- The Overlords should wreck tanks. Alternatively, they can be used to harass heavy weapons teams and smaller squads. They can tie up enemies if necessary. If their
CCBs survive, they'll be great for contesting objectives in the late-game.
- Harbingers of Destruction carry Eldritch Lances will join the Warriors (2 per squad). The Solar Pulses should essentially nullify enemy
Devs / Long Fangs / Dreads / etc. early game until the majority of my army can get into position.
- The Scarabs can be used as speed bumps or to hunt slow-moving tanks. They're beasts, which means they actually have a fairly substantial threat range. I'm looking forward to getting the chance to Pacman a transport. With such a small squad, hiding them should be easy.
- Wraiths... S6, A3, Rending, 3++, Jump Infantry that ignore all Difficult & Dangerous Terrain. Nuff said.
- Tesla Destructors are just nasty.
- You'll notice I've added Gauss Cannons where possible to add some AP3 shooting to the list.
