You could try the Dreadfleet mats? I heard a lot of people even bought Dreadfleet specifically for the mat, believe it or not. They go on Ebay for £20 ish.

I've purchased a mat from Corsec Engineering, and it was quite nice. It probably wouldn't arrive in time though. Have you investigated purchasing a piece of felt from a local fabrIc store? That might be your quickest and most cost-effective solution. They might also have some cotton prints that would represent an ocean well, though cotton will tend to wrinkle more than felt.

+1 for the felt. Bought 3 yards of dark blue and dark green felt, and then cut them down to 4x8 feet each. Pretty sturdy, rolls up nice, and I pin lighter blues and greens to represent reefs or "small" class islands and terrain. Marginal issue with models not sliding on the felt, but i figure that'll go away when I clean the flash off and paint them up

Well, this problem unfortunately never goes away entirely from my experience. There might be some sort of treatment that can be done to the felt to reduce the problem, though.

Thinking of trying scotchgard or something similar. not sure if it would affect the flexibility of the felt.
