ive got a copy of Final liberation on my computer, it installs properly but when i go to play. it goes through all the introduction scenes fine, but then when it gets to the titlescreen the screen is completely black, it plays the music and makes the key sounds when i press stuff but im unable to see anything at all. and if i click windows to minimize i do get a brief half second view of what the title screen looks like before it minimizes then closes itself. anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? or both? ive already tried compatability mode.

What platform are you running it on? A lot of the problems are due to the in-game movies not working properly on newer systems. Try the following:
"The file 'epic.ini' is created when the game is successfully run, if you do not have a Win9x partition to get a copy of this file from, then create it yourself then copy and paste the following:
[Options]
MusicVol=100
FX_Volume=127
MV_Volume=127
UseGrid=0
DoVideo=0
WatchAI=0
AutoSave=1
(the file should be 100 bytes size including the final Return after AutoSave=1). Those settings are the defaults except for DoVideo=0 which was changed from 1 to disable the movies"

If you're running it on a more modern OS (XP+ I think) like Vista or 7, you need to get the unofficial community patch that removes the cutscenes. As far as I am aware, that's the only way to play it on such computers as Bink Videoplayer just doesn't work.

I had it running on Vista (including the cutscenes) unfortunately I can't remember how.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

N-n-n-n-n-n-necro!
Seriously though, very pee'd off this evening. You may or may not know that there is an XP Mode that comes bundled with certain versions of Win 7 that basically allow you to stand up a Virtual XP box. So I spent the best part of an hour downloading patches and fixes for Final Liberation to get it working at last, applying the ini fix and some homebrew patches that sort colour clashes out and all that.
Did it work?
Did it buggery. All I get is a random error message saying 'EnumDisplayModes failed' which, when Googled, primarily leads to some sort of Linux bug forum discussing WINE of all things (but no solution of course). I suspect it has something to do with Direct X and display resolutions but I'm stumped if I know how to fix it - the screen resolution in the Virtual PC is fixed and can't be altered.
Anyone got any ideas? Would really like to get the game running again. Automatically Appended Next Post: Found a solution:
1. Open Virtual PC in windowed mode.
2. Click on Tools.
3. Disable Integration feature.
So Final Lib runs in a teeny, tiny window but at least it runs...
