So tomorow i'm playing a doubles battle as daemons and am siding with ultramarines, anyone have any ideas on fluff-wise why they would be playing together. (other than the "daemnically possesed space marme captain")

Thanks

Well my army will prodominately tzeentch and nurgle so i had an idea, tell me what you think:

A massive horde of nurgle accopanied by some of tzeentch's largest detatchments had been fighting A near equally great force of some ultramarines for months. The forces of chaos were winning and the once vast enemy forces were down to a relatively small number of tired soldiers. In this state they were highly vulnerable to catching the feared disease, nurgle's rot. Being a slow disease it started by weakening the targets mind, breaking down their mental defences. Following this they were now more suceptable than ever to tzeentch's trickery and mind games. He offered the only captain still alive a choice; they could either devote their services to chaos and help to fight the imperium in exchange for nurgle letting their minds go and sparring their lives, the alternative being that the final waves of daemons would pour through their army and ensure that they all died a slow and painfull death. The mentaly weakened captain accepted tzeentch's offer.

So, hopefully this should explain why i am fighting alongside 750 points of ultramarines

Tzeentch/Slaanesh afflicts the minds of the Ultramarines with a deception, making them believe that those Daemons are actually heroic and capable Imperial Guardsmen or brother Astartes from another venerable Chapter.

Best I got.

Wherever your partner plans to deploy his forces, deploy yours elsewhere, and say your smurfs just happen to be attacking the same enemy.......then have a fast game against your partner after the main battle with whatever is left of your armies.

The Ultras are either fresh traitors, or the Alpha Legion having a laugh.

The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. - Eisenhorn: Malleus

Ooh! Alpha Legion!

Yeah, that's the best one I could think of.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

The Ultramarines commander believes it's more tactically efficient to allow the enemy of his enemy get their hands dirty.
Of course, his agenda is to annihilate the pestilence as soon as opportunity allows, all the while relaying orders to his Battle-Brothers to keep their distance and prepare for an instant strike.

The Daemon herald is of considerable influence and as such held in awe by his minions. Fearing his fiery wrath, the daemonic horde fight off their thirst to kill the Ultramarines in lieu of a greater victory for their Dark Gods.
However, the Daemonic Herald plots insidiously to turn upon his prey as soon as a weak spot is presented. Until then, he is more than sated allowing the blood to flow freely.

If you'd like to keep the game fluffy, I'd suggest that from Turn 3 onwards you roll a D6. On the roll of a 5 the two forces turn on each other. On the following turn, if 5 wasn't rolled, roll again and this time on the roll of a 4 they turn and so on until eventually and inevitably they turn on one another.

Well, not to add more problems, but, you've got the secondary problem of Nurgle and Tzeentch working together w/o some particularly strong, unifying presence...

I'm hard pressed to come up with anything fluffy to support that combo, even the Necron/Marine love-fest reasoning doesn't apply here...

Here's an important detail I didn't see anywhere, what faction(s) are you playing against?

Ex.

Against Nids - SM are battling fiercely for their lives and Chaos, noting the galactic importance of this battle, decide to assist the SM in order to guarantee the continuation of the Great Game.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Cannot think of a reason, well sort of. What type of Daemons are they?

I think you could get away with the Daemons in general using the Ultras to get what they want, but it's sort of hard to picture why they'd work together. I could just picture the Daemons showing up seeing two sides fighting then just hitting them both while they're weaker anyway. It'd probably work if the Ultras simply had no idea of the Daemon involvement as after this that company would be wiped and the rest of the chapter would then undergo very close observation until they have been declared clean again. Afterwards the chapter would then go on a crusade of sorts for redemption. That's even being lenient for them since they are a founding legion any other chapter and they'd probably just wipe them out.
