I'm in the process of converting some of my guard into storm troopers. I've ordered heads and did a conversion with tau legs for the carapace armour. My only problem now is the hot shot lasguns. One of my ideas is to paint them differently but keep them basic lasguns. With the WYSIWYG rule though, some players might not be happy. Any ideas on how to make some converted lasguns?

add a power cord? Mag lights aren't that different looking than flash lights.

The chapter house HSLG looks horrible. I have seen people buying the metal Cadian stormtrooper back packsthen chopping off the mags on a normal lasgun. Then running some thin metal wire from the mag well to the back of the stormtrooper back pack.

Trimming the lasguns off the arms can be a pain in the arse, modifying the existing las guns is a lot easier. Like others have mentioned adding cables when the ammo clip goes works it also helps if you change the barrel of the gun styrene rods good for this or on the cheaper side the inside of Bic byro cut up works too

You could always take the cheap approach and boost the magazine with some sprue (a box type mag to explain more power) and replace the lasgun barrel with a tube with a silencer (extra penetration).

I just added space marine arms to my cadians and upgraded the heads whit respirators from the CCS box. Chopped off the barrel and magazine from a regular bolter and then added a longer barrel using plastic rod. Finally I made the energy packs from a vox-caster or space marine backpacks from whist I chopped off the ball vents or what ever they are. Used two guitar strings to connect the "lasgun" to the energy pack and done. Simple and effective

There are a couple routes. Id say just take a few of of your bits out and start playing around. See what you can come up with.

Thanks for all the great ideas, I'm going to try Icebay's idea with the space marine packs.
@Goundry: Those are the exact same heads I have.
@Flinty: That is the same way I did the legs too

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Nice work,
I think a filed down marine backpack, with a cord makes a good touch. Add on a toothpick barrel and scope and you have a win win. nice work.

Modelling a backpack and cable is nice, but seems a lot of work. Given that a Hot Shot Lasgun is just a extra-grunty lasgun, a simpler option would be to just replace the current "ammo" battery with something bigger and paint it differently.
