So after getting myself an Ork army in 40k i decided i wanted to go fantasy and vampires are my 2nd favorite fantasy in general race. So i made a 500 point list of them by looking up rules and such online (yes the current 8th edition and i plan on buying the book once i get started). I am also asking if this army is tournament legal or i can use it to play at most gaming stores that do Warhammer and if my army isn't legal please tell me how to fix it. thanks guys, here it is:

1x Vamp Hero - Summon Ghouls, Talisman of Lycni 125p

18x Crypt ghouls - champion 144p

3x Crypt horrors - crypt hunter 124p

2x Cairn wraiths - 100p

494p

Cairn wraiths cannot be fielded in units less than 3.

I agree with my comrade above me. If you're going for a Crypt army, use a Strigoi Vampire instead. Just seems to fit the theme you got here.

Um.. are you sure the rules you were looking at is accurate?

For 1 ghouls are 10 points each plus 10 for the unit champ so they should come in at 190 points and I dont know what Summon Ghouls or Talisman of Lycni are but they sound like a vamp power and item from the last book :/

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

You know, I was just thinking that myself... I think you are looking at 7th edition and not 8th edition. Furthermore, Ghoul kings cannot be fielded at 500 points so Big Mek, he would have to wait for 1000 points I think for that suggestion.

1040 for a ghoul king.

oh woops lol. eh suppose thats what i get for looking around online rather the actual book but now im thinking:
Vampire - level 2 wizard 140p
20x crypt ghouls - champ 210p
5x hexwraiths - 150p
500 solid points

Sounds good for a tournament or what?

I'd switch the vampire for a Necromancer. At 500 points, you can just summon horde after horde of zombies to bog down units and with a group that can't be hit except for magical weapons, it'll be hell for your opponent. Also, like the block of crypt ghouls with all those poison attacks

If it is for a tournie, its illegal, as you need at least 3 units + character in an army, unless they have waved that restriction.

Yeah. You just need to get extra models of the ones you have and 1 or 2 boxes of zombies (Siginature spell for the win!).

I would switch the hexwraiths for black knights with barding and lances. Will do more in a 500 point game than the hexwraiths.

Good point. Since they're also not effected except for magical attacks, the Black Knights are more powerful.

Uhhhh yes they are, they are only counted as ethereal for the purposes of movement only, mundane attacks are still fair game.
That being said, in 500 points you will probably find the Hexwraiths doing more, how many magic weapons do you think will be in 500 points? Maybe 1 on a skaven or goblin, not much more than that.

Ah but one stray magic missile and they are toast. or a warp lightning cannon, there is plenty to drop them quicker than the Black Knights.

Case in point. At 500 points units that could stand up to Black Nights in due to large numbers will surely fall.

well i was thinking of having them go after the magic first so that the only threat to them is gone then with the surviving hexwraith's sweep up the rest of there army along with the extra zombies from the necromancer.

If you mean Black Knights, that was in the last book when they had wight blades, now they just have KB

A WLC at 500, bit too many points there I think and at 500 points, if your hexwraiths take a magic missile that's your raisable units not being hit, which allows you to make your big unit bigger.

WLC is only 90 points, in the escalation league I am in currently there are 2 of the 3 skaven armies with WLCs in them. In addition, the Black Knights are more survivable and if I remember correctly you can bring them back easier than you can the hexwraiths.

And they pay for their points cost with their prowess on the battlefield.

The Black Knights have a higher toughness than the Hexwraiths, a MUCH better armor save, and are the same strength (on the charge) as the hexwraiths. Plus can have a banner and musician to help with combat res. Sure they can be hit back but can be brought back more efficiently than the hexwraiths.

Can I suggest swapping the skeletons for zombies, getting rid of master of the dead on the Necro as this is cheaper and will do the same job for cheaper.

MIght also be tempted to drop the Black Wights for a Vargulf and he does the job at 500pts better in my opinion

My two cents

2500pts
1250pts
warriors of chaos 2000pts
Wood Elves 1000pts
VC 1500pts
1000pts

Cannot fit a Vargulf. Rare slot is 125 at 500 points and Vargulf is more than that.
Waves of zombies will still die in waves.

Yep but you raise up more zombies and don't have to pay 20 points to get them above their starting value and have the same stat line as a Skely and are affected by the same spells to make them better in combat
shame about the Vargulf, Black Wights are the best option then really

But they are not on par with the skeletons. They are WS 1, do not have armor or a parry save, and you are then relying on a spell to bring back enough of them to make up for how many will die. I would rather hit on 4s, wound on 4s, and have an armor and parry save than hit on 5s, wound on 5s and have no saves at all. Plus if Fear does go off the skeletons are hitting on 3s and the zombies are still hitting on 4s.

You have to buy lances for all or none, it is not a per model purchase. Drop the Ghast and that should solve it
