2k necron list

HQ: = 580
overlord w/warscythe, command barge = 180
- court: 2 lords w/ res orbs, warscythes = 150
overlord w/ warscythe, command barge = 180
- court: 2 crypteks w/ eldrich lances = 70

Troops: = 260
10 warriors = 130
10 warriors = 130

Elites: 330
stalker w/ hev gauss cannon = 165
stalker w/ hev gauss cannon = 165

Fast Attack: = 225
5 wraiths, with whip coils = 225

hev support: = 600
3x monoliths = 600

total = 1995

so this is a variation on my tripple threat list, ive modified it a bit, to include a second CCB and overlord, as well as a pair of courts to buff the warriors. im not sure if i want to go with 3 smaller warrior squads with 2 lanceteks each, or 2 larger squads with a single lancetek and a rezorb lord in each. ive also been debating on taking more units of wraiths, or keeping them to a single squad. anyway, suggestions on this would be apreciated.

I've never played with Monoliths - how are you proposing to play the troops? They look like they need a phaeron, but I suppose it depends on how close they will be when they come out of the monolith.

If anything, those stalkers look out of place. I would have thought that more wraiths would work better, but again, not sure how the stalkers and monoliths combine.

i was thinking of using the monoliths to sort of screen the stalkers, while they snipe. warriors sit in reserve and pop out when i get the 'liths onto objectives or near center field, either via DS, deployment or movement.

since i have yet to actually get some games in with these, im hoping for some help in getting a respectable list up and running. i would like to use my monoliths, as i have had them since initial release12 years ago, and i put alot of effort into making them light up and such.

the reason i have stalkers, is really for hev gauss cannon long range fire. plus they have that neat twin linking thing for other units, like my lance teks.my other list looks like:

overlord, warscythe, ccb
3x3 wraiths 1 whip coil each
3x7 warrior squads
3x 1 stalkers
3x 1 monoliths

i trimmed that down to add lanceteks for the warriors (mainly to provide more long range fire) and i added a second overlord to give me more sweep attacks.

i do have the option of picking up some more box sets before things get intense. im playing an escalation league, and am trying to sort out the army before it starts. i currently have a ton of warriors, 3 monoliths, i picked up 2 stalkers, and 2 CCBs so far. but can always add more to the collection.

What's your preferred play style?

From what I know of liths, I'd drop a pair of liths about 18" in from each short edge and 12" in from the opponent long edge.

Then I'd pull scarabs, wraiths through the liths to mess up the opponent backfield and sort of force them towards my board edge - where I'd have troops waiting to shoot them up.

Not sure if the above would work well or whether having three (another lith centre board) would be necessary - depends on how many models you can pull in through the doorway?

A guy at my LGS plays with 3 monoliths and he's had a lot of success. I don't play Necrons, but I do play against them and I can tell you that three AV14 beasts with living armor is hard to deal with. Especially because every time I get close enough to use my meltaguns, the monolith turns and uses that door thingy to trash my squad.

But remember, you only have two troops. So you MUST protect them. If you give your opponent the opportunity, he'll focus fire on them and knock them all down.

thats a neat idea. i never thought of "bookending" with the monoliths like that...could work pretty awsome.

Been thinking about this. If you DS liths like I said earlier, I'd be inclined to reduce the troop numbers and create a Royal court deathstar. Being able to haul the deathstar from anywhere through the lith and assault would be a pita for the opponent. If the first thing through is wraiths, followed by the deathstar I reckon that would be fairly powerful. You would also use the liths as cover for the CCBs.

Only major problem would be melta as you'd basically be dumping the liths right next to the melta - but I suppose you get around that by bringing the wraiths through quick.

can units that disembark the liths, assault after? they are treated as disembarking from a vehicle moving at combat speed... so i would assume no?

Hmmm..just checked the BRB and I think the answer is no as well. That's an obvious bummer, cos it means you'll need to bring shooters through first (to give cover to wraiths following). Maybe the ploy is to bring a small cryptek RC unit through first (voltaic staffs, abyssal staffs and a lance to crack armour). Then some tesla immortals. Scarabs and wraiths can move fast enough to catch up.

One of the things is that this will work best if all the liths arrive together. For that, assuming the opponent reserves at least one thing, Zahndrek's phased reinforcements might work.

So, a list might look like:

Zahndrek
Anrakyr CCB
4 Lancetek with 2 pulses
10 Tesla Immortals (upgrade to eternals, zahndrek)
2x5 warriors (2 lanceteks per squad)
2x6 wraiths,3 coils, 1 caster
3xMonolith

Course, if the opponent doesn't reserve anything, Zahndrek doesn't add anything. Anrakyr is basically there for some AT (the eternals benefit was a bonus), so could swap to a normal overlord to save points.

I personally would drop the Monoliths and instead use the points to put the Warriors into Ghost Arks. I run a list that has 10 13AV vehicles in it and it's done fairly well in most games. The Ghost Arks would be cheaper and provide 13 AV "cover" if you will to the warriors. Could even get 3 if you swapped out the monoliths thus giving you more scoring units and additional points to add say Scarabs into your list. However, this is my personal opinion.

then whats your ranged support? how do you overcome the restricted range?

- ive played warriors in arks before, and they tend to get charged and wiped with little resistance. im even considering upgrading from warriors to tesla immortals
