This is a skirmish report played with some special rules and no unit coherency required.
All terrain permits 4+ saves. maximum turns = 12!!! I.G. setup first after the 6 random starting points have been determined and placed around the perimeter of the table. Space Marines are divided into (7) 2 man units & get first move entering with d3 two man units. The rest of the Space Marines are in reserve.
I.G. force, 3 (10 man) Veteran Squads, two with 1 Flamer & 1 Grenade Launcher and one with just a Flamer.
S.M. force, 1 over sized Special Missions squad of 14 MArines, w/ 12 Bolters, 1 Flamer and a Sgt. with a Storm Bolter.
All other rules apply.
Mission: Space Marines are looking to recover an Artifact which is at 1 of three random locations and get it off the table.
Here is the table setup.
This is done mostly from the Space Marine point of view as some pictures were lost.

Yeah, I don't have PTSD after five combat tours, and frankly I'd rather get parachuted back into Helmand province armed with only a fething Nerf gun and my underpants than go into my local GW.

Pretty cool little battle. Makes it a little more personal with only a handful of troops.

Thanks Guys, We are planning on another skirmish with the IG attacking the small outpost that the Marines struck from. Will be find and destroy type mission.
We are attempting to use these skirmish battle to generate a larger one to climax this mini campaign.
Any feed back is welcome. Also any ideas to keep this going for a few more skirmishs.

I like the skirmish style and no coherency. Could you post the rules you guys made up? I would like to try something like his at home. There's even room for some xp and special ability unlocks that you could write in for guard or marines who kicked ass

Hi and thanks for your inquiry.
Basically each model is a unit unto itself. no Moral rules, no Orders, No coherency.
We started with the forces noted. City was setup and 3 barrels were used to show the possible location of the Artifact and were positioned by the IG player within 12" of the center of the board. The Space Marines were to find the objective and get it off the table. The Artifact could be picked up instead of shooting.
After the table was setup and the barrels positioned the IG deployed anywhere on the table at least 8" away from any of the six random starting points for the Marines. The (14) Marines were divided into 7 two man groups. The Marines started with d3 units with the rest coming on in reserve. Starting points were rolled for with no restriction on how many groups could start at a given location. The Marines move first and turns are taken as normal. Shooting was done using normal shooting rules, but each model had to be committed to a target and all shots at a given target were taken at once. Each Marine turn the Marines would move each model and then roll for reserves with each arriving group starting at a random location around the board. The battle runs for 12 moves or until the Artifact is moved off the board or all enemy models are killed!!!
Hope this helps and thanks agin for reading.

Thanks for all the comments and acknowledgement of my terrain.
All home made stuff and I am close to being able to cover a city scape on our 4' X 8' table with this type of buildings.
Also hoping to post the next scenario soon.
Thanks to All,

XP would be a really good idea, or for every 2 enemies they kill the model gains a special rule.

Tournament record: (W/D/L)
Space wolves : 1/1/1
Dark Eldar : 6/0/1 (1 overall win)
Daemons :8/0/2 (1 overall win)
Normal games starting 5/11/12:
Dark Eldar 13/0/1
Daemons 32/1/1
Friends armies 1/0/0

Pondering weapon options also. I need to look thru the rules and see if any ideas get my attention.

You could give random chart (dice roll) abilities to a particular model for every x number of kills they get. Abilities could be plus one to an attribute (then roll on a chart for which attribute is effected) or special ability , reroll to shoot, reroll in cc, reroll Ld. You could make up a different series of charts for the sergeants that give a bonus to friendly troops. You could also allow special abilities such us weapon unlocks for x number kills. Added wargear... The possibilities are endless.

Have fun

I'd say check out Mordheim for ideas. Got exp, skill boosts, abilities, etc.

Another thing you could gain is getting a rocket launcher upgrade from a normal gun.
