I live in a neighborhood that has a few vacant homes in it, in fact one such home is RIGHT next door to me *sarcastic jump for joy* and theres a guy on the end of the street that has so many over grown shrubs/bushes that you literally pull out into the street to see if traffic is coming So to be brutally honest, I see no problem with these kinds of ideas. I keep a clean home inside and out, Im sure others can muster it as well

Neighborhood associations do that here anyway...

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

We can as well.

I think it is covered under safety regulations, overgrown yards attract rats & pests and can make is hard to see traffic if you are in a corner lot.

Do you own your own home? If so wouldnt you like not having the lot next door being a giant pile of gak? Because I can tell you from experience that it makes YOUR house, no matter how nice, look bad. And after bitching to the city for months on end, they finally at least mowed the yard. The mosquitos were getting so bad I couldnt go out in the back yard after 4PM because they were so thick. Really, Im fine with them fining people and handing out bench warrants

The state really needs to enforce the laws on lazy people who don't shovel and salt their sidewalks.

When you own your own property, you should be allowed to do virtually whatever you want, because, well its yours.
Not you can do whatever you want except:
A
B
C
D
E
F
etc.
If the neighbour is a lazy gakpile, well, a little vigilante justice, never hurt anyone, or you could put them on a current affairs program (Australians will get that last part).

Except what happens on the property next to mine affects my property.

I am all about Libertarian principles, but this is one case where your actions affect me so libertarianism doesn't apply.

Your pile of junk goes up in flames, my house burns.
Your 5 foot high yard gets infected by ticks, fleas, rats they are on my property too.

Never mind that people know what the rules and laws are before they buy a house in a particular spot.

Can you park your car in the middle of the intersection? Can you take off the muffler and put giant spotlights all over it?

You purchased it...

Technically, yes, unless someone somehow physically bars your way, than you can do just that.

I am pretty sure that if you just park your car in the intersection, you will get a ticket and your car will get locked up in the impound lot.

And good luck passing your inspection and being allowed to drive it after altering your exhaust system.

Cops will also pull you over for the 360 spotlights.

So, no you can't.

Interesting story about sidewalks,

My grandfather got annoyed when the city told him to shovel and salt the sidewalk that ran alongside his house, it was a bit of a hassle since they lived on a corner.

Long story short he just tore up the sidewalk that was on his property.

Heh...I live on Long Island and to be fair, there are alot of houses in foreclosure or already foreclosed, so this is going to help improve those communities.

The Warstore has none of those problems as it is in the middle of farmland, only twenty minutes away from where I live.

Which is exactly the point that I am making in reply to the "if I buy something (a house) I should be able to do what I want with it" crowd.

Wish my problem was that easy to fix. I live next to lazy people who don't work... sort of. They collect disability and welfare and own a giant flat screen and a bunch of video games, for whatever reason they decided to buy a used jet ski about 2 months ago.

The only real work they do is hop in their "pedo van" and go house to house taking people's bottles and cans.

The cut their grass once a year, don't shovel the snow because it hurts their back. And use a leaf blower for a handful of leaves.

At least they provide entertainment when they get drunk.

Mandate 11 foot concrete walls around the perimeter of all pieces of property. Not only will it let people do what they want, it'll really help out when the weaponized bath salts turn 90% of the worlds population into flesh eating cannibals.

Those two things are totally different. What I stick in my mouth doesnt affect my neighbors at all. If I eat cake 5 times a day, everyday but Sundays, where its ham glazing, it does NOTHING to their home, their property or their livelihood. Now if I didnt take care of my yard, hard rottin cars all over, the grass turned into a field years ago, and are now infested with rats, yea that affects them completely. Not only will it drive down property value thanks to the blight, but as mentioned the pests will DEFINITELY go into their yards. Thanks to the gak hole next door, I have carpenter ants like a bitch because of the 3, yes 3! down and rotten trees in the yard. So I get to waste my money on poisons and such to keep the fethers out of my house.

Are you seeing a difference yet?

The mighty TBone views grass that hasn't been cut as the great savannah, and has to climb through it like a jungle explorer. About half the time he veers into the garden, lays under a plant and eats dirt until he remembers where the hell he's at.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Technically no, due to traffic and vehicle construction laws.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

You could though, seeing as it would still be possible, however the law would say you may not.

In Buffalo, NY, we have this thing called the "Mayor's Impact Team." Basically, if you don't properly maintain your property, they warn you about the regulations.

If you fail to act after a certain amount of time, they send contracted landscaping businesses over to your house, clean your yard and remove your garbage so that it sits within standards, and bill you for it.

Works really well.
