So i am going to be creating a necron army soon. And i have a general idea of what i am going to get. And i am not going to be doing some like hard core playing or any thing. Its just something to play against my friends and what not. We play between 1000 and 2000 points

-Overlord
- A few lords or crypteks (if you guys can help me decide that would be great)
- going to get 32 necron warriors ( from a battleforce box, and a warrior box. Just to have depending on the point count)
- 5x immortals from the battleforce box
- 1 or 2 ghost arks (1 for sure from the battleforce box. I feel that transports are a good idea. And they act as a good support with the 5 broadside gauss flayers. Along with getting the warriors where they need to be faster. What do you all think?)
- 2x annihilation barges
- maybe in the future some wraiths ( and i think most people who get wraiths use the harbingers of destruction for the solar pulse. To move the wraiths closer)
- and i am debating either getting tomb blades or destroyers ( have not seen either of these on peoples army lists on this forum)
- And i really want to know if a doomsday barge is worth getting or just get another annihilation barge or something else with yalls advice


I do not have a large budget. I am selling a eldar army to fund this. So i cant get like bunch of the expensive units and what not.

Your overlord will be covered in your annihilation barge boxes (this kit comes w an overlord) so dont buy the finecast one

Start the one ark in your battleforce...try running it as both and see which you like and what meshes best with you...

you can use some of those spare warrior bodies (along with the spare deathmark heads you will have left after your immortals) to make your own crypteks...look online for bitz distributors to get your hands on some staves from the praetorian box (or a left over staff of light from a DLord) and use those to make crypteks....thats what myself and most of the necron players I have seen have done.

I am a fan of tomb blades and find them more useful than destroyers...

As for weather to get one more ABarge or Doomsday ark...based on my experience I would say the ABarge...90 points for what it can dump out is just really really hard to beat...

The second link might be helpful, because it was also about what to get out of a battle force (which is probably the easiest way to start a Necron army).

The major expense points are going to be crypteks, so you'll save a packet converting those yourself.

For the Arks and barges, magnetize them so you can switch Ghost/Doomsday Ark and Catacomb Command/Annihilation Barge.
That is what I did, and I am glad I did. I have switched around my army so many times and I don't have to get new models!

If you're just starting out, I recommend:
1x Battleforce box
2-3x Barge boxes
1x Lychguard box
(with this, you can make a fairly decent core army (complete with a full Royal Court), which can be easily added to over time)

Regarding Barges, you'll be wishing you had more... I'm talking like 5.

Regarding Tomb Blades and Destroyers, in 5th they hardly ever see play... but in 6th, I have a feeling we may be seeing the return of Destroyer Wing as an army list.

With the Lychguard/praetorian box, don't bother making either of those, a CC unit with I2? that will never work, and they are so many points!
With a little bit of conversion work, the bits in that box is enough to make 5 lords or crypteks.
To make my crypteks stand out from the rest of the army, I made them all surf. I used the shields as hover boards, gave them a random assortment of weapons and wallah! Crypteks which are easily distinguished from the rest of my army, and they look great too!
For lords, assemble them pretty much like a Lychguard. If you want a res orb, just use a ball of greenstuff.

and agree with Skoffs, barges are great, but I only use 2 or 3, and switch back and forth on wether I run them as a CCB or a AB

Throw a Chronomancer in with your lychguard sometime.... they're surprisingly stalwart.

Actually, I disagree with this. I find that the S&B Lychguard are highly resilient and make excellent bodyguards for IC/SC or simply as a CC unit (add VeilTek and OrbLord with WS, MSS). Re the Praetorians (assuming they have void blades and particle casters), having JI is handy if you have already used your FA slot for wraiths (or can't afford to buy them!! )

... I figured as Markcron had already mentioned that in this thread, it would be redundant to do so again (no one buys Lychguard boxes to make Lychguard anymore. It's all about the Cryptek conversions... if you've got the bits left over to make some Sword & Shield guys, however, might as well).
